Herb patches are farming patches in which players can grow herbs. Currently, there are a total of 10 Herb patches. Herbs are primarily used in the Herblore skill. Most herb patches also have a compost bin, a tool leprechaun, an allotment, and a flower patch nearby. All herbs take approximately 80 minutes to fully grow. Each patch requires one seed to begin growing that herb type. A seed dibber is required to plant a herb seed (unless the player has completed the farming subsection of Barbarian Training) and a spade to harvest herbs.

Unlike allotments, there is no way to protect herbs from disease, except by using a disease-free patch. Players can check on herbs regularly and apply plant cure if necessary to save a diseased plant. Using the Lunar Spellbook, players can also cure diseased plants with the spell Cure Plant, and instantly check the status of all farming patches by casting the spell Geomancy. It is highly recommended to use ultracompost on valuable herb crops, as this will not only greatly decrease the risk of death, but also increase the minimum yield to 6 herbs per seed. Yield boosting equipment such as the magic secateurs is also highly recommended.

Similar to allotments, players may increase harvesting speed over the automatic rate by harvesting, waiting 2 game ticks, then clicking again to harvest. This will harvest 2 herbs per animation, effectively doubling harvest rate for the patch. The increased speed can also be achieved without any need for precise timing by spam-clicking during the first two ticks of harvesting.

Bonuses

Many herb patches possess unique bonuses either after unlocking or once a requirement is fulfilled:

10% increased experience using the patch south of Falador after completing the Medium Falador Diary.
5, 10, and 15% extra yield using the patch north of Catherby with completion of the Medium, Hard, and Elite Kandarin diaries respectively.
5% extra yield using the patch in the second tier of the Farming Guild with completion of the Hard Kourend & Kebos Diary.
5% extra yield using the patch in Hosidius with completion of the Hard Kourend & Kebos Diary.
10% extra yield on all herb patches when wielding or having magic secateurs in the inventory.
5% extra yield on all herb patches when wearing a Farming cape.
5% extra chance to save a harvest life on all herb patches with a planted attas seed.^[1]

18 June 2015 (Update)	The increased herb yields from Catherby herb patch and better chances at higher ores when cleaning pay-dirt diary rewards are now correctly being applied.
5 March 2015 (Update \| poll)	There is now a herb patch located on Harmony Island that you can use if you have completed the Morytania Elite Diary. You now receive increased yields from the Catherby herb patch for the completion of Kandarin Diaries: 5% more for the medium diary. 10% more for the hard diary. 15% more for the elite diary.

Lunar spellbook's Geomancy spell has custom descriptions for protected patches:
- Harmony Island's patch is described as being "permanently undead" and is indicated by a zombie variant of the Friends List icon.
- Hosidius's patch is described as being protected by the "people of Hosidius" and is indicated by the Friends List icon.
- Troll Stronghold and Weiss's patches use the generic protection description and icon.
- Civitas illa Fortis has no custom description nor icon at all.
