Zemouregal's Fort

Weiss is an ice troll settlement located in the North, requiring partial completion of Making Friends with My Arm to access. Below the settlement are the salt mine and the Ghorrock Dungeon.

Transportation

All methods of accessing Weiss require at least partial completion of the quest Making Friends with My Arm.

Weiss has one teleport, icy basalt, which teleports players near the herb patches in the western section of town. A permanent version of the teleport can be built in a player-owned home. Players who obtain the frozen tablet from Duke Sucellus may also use the ring of shadows to teleport to the dungeon beneath the settlement.

Players can also use Larry's boat north-east of Rellekka to sail to Weiss. Larry can be reached a number of ways, including fairy ring code DKS, the Fremennik sea boots, or the enchanted lyre. Finally, players with 80 Sailing can dock at the mooring point after completing the quest.

History

The following lore is sourced from Making Friends with My Arm and Secrets of the North.

The troll village of Weiss was founded during the Fifth Age by a group of powerful rogue ice trolls, led by Mother. Mother and his tribe were forced into the inhospitable tundra north after their invasion was repelled by the dwarves of Keldagrim and the Wise Old Man. There, using whatever they could find, they managed to construct their settlement, which was unknowingly placed on top of the ancient Zarosian fortress of Ghorrock. They soon discovered various salt deposits underneath the village.

The trolls in Weiss harbored a lingering hatred of humans, due to the actions of the Wise Old Man. In year 169 of the Fifth Age, Mother sent representative Wolfbone to the Troll Stronghold, prompting a human adventurer who had helped the mountain trolls to travel to Weiss. Although the human travelled with a mountain troll, they had to initially evade the inhabitants, since the ice trolls did not know that the mountain troll would be accompanied by a human.

During negotiations, My Arm became infatuated with Mother's daughter, Snowflake, but could not gain the approval of Mother. With the assistance of a troll named Odd Mushroom, the four attempt to trick Mother into believing that My Arm killed the Wise Old Man. However, the plot was revealed, causing Mother to kill Odd Mushroom and attack the rest of the group. The adventurer manages to kill Mother, leading Snowflake to marry My Arm and becomes the new leader of Weiss. From then onward, the human adventurer was given access to the village.

Locations

There are only two covered buildings in Weiss. One of them, located at the centre of the settlement, hosts the throne, as well as the entrance to the salt mine. There is also a small covered structure near the herb patch, hosting a bed. All other structures are open at the top, and most contain a resource, such as timber, salt, or ice wolves (which the trolls eat as food).

Salt Mine

The salt mine is found under the main hut. In the mine, players can mine various salts, which can be used to create fire pits and basalt teleports. While efh, te, and urt salt are stackable, basalt is not; however, players can return upstairs and speak to Snowflake to have them converted into bank notes.

Herb patch

There is also a disease-free herb patch right near the icy basalt teleport location. In order to make use of it, players must first build a fire of nourishment, requiring 2 mahogany planks, 2 steel bars, 100 efh salt, 50 te salt and 150 urt salt. A hammer, saw and tinderbox are required to construct the fire.

Ghorrock Dungeon

From the salt mine, players can access the Ghorrock Dungeon. Inside the dungeon is the fearsome Phantom Muspah, accessible after completing Secrets of the North. Players can also enter the Ghorrock Prison from the northern part of the dungeon, allowing them to take on the menacing Duke Sucellus after completing Desert Treasure II. Both of these bosses are very high-level, and result in good profit per hour for experienced players. Players can also mine ancient essence here, requiring 75 Mining.

Trivia

  • "Weiss" (properly spelled as weiß) is German for white, a reference to the snow.
  • Weiss was a suggestion from an Old School RuneScape player in 2016. Mod Ash announced at RuneFest 2016 to work on a troll quest, which would take place in what was then called at the time "Wiss" (also referred to as "the ugly black square above the Ice Path").
  • There are several inaccessible locations found around Weiss, which can be viewed if players have an oculus orb.
    • South of the town itself, a hunter area can be seen filled with deadfall traps. However, there are no hunter creatures to be seen.
    • To the east, a large, abandoned, Zarosian fortress known as Ghorrock. While players can visit Ghorrock's dungeon and prison, the surface area of the fortress is inaccessible.
    • South of the fortress, an Old Shrine can be seen, with the examine text stating "An ancient stone, possibly used in some sort of ritual." This shrine is in fact the ritual marker used by the Mahjarrat in their Ritual of Rejuvenation.
