The North is a frozen region of snow and ice where the city of Ghorrock once stood, along with its surrounding lands. The area is often referred to by the Mahjarrat, expressing plans to "go North" or "meet again in the North" since an old shrine at the centre of the area serves as the site of their rejuvenation ritual.[1][2]
Ghorrock was part of the Zarosian Empire during the Second Age and served as a refuge for Zarosian survivors during the God Wars, who lived in secret underground for many years.[3] The surface was abandoned during this time and today is largely destroyed, aside from the main fortress.[4]
In more recent years, several Mahjarrat have inhabited the area even outside times of the ritual, including Jhallan, Lucien, Zemouregal, and Lamistard (later killed during one of the rituals). It has also been visited by Hazeel and Khazard while investigating Ghorrock Prison.

- Frozen Waste Plateau, a desolate part of the northern Wilderness, reachable via the Ghorrock teleport
- Weiss, home of the Ice Trolls, who settled atop Ghorrock Dungeon[5]

Trivia
- In RuneScape 3, the lore and area behind the North is more developed:
- While Weiss does not exist, that general area is known as the Mahjarrat Ritual Site, and plays a major role in the quest Ritual of the Mahjarrat.
- The Old Shrine is called the ritual marker, and was created by Zaros to be used as part of the Ritual of the Mahjarrat.
- The Mahjarrat Jhallan is sacrificed by Lucien at the Ritual Site during the quest Ritual of the Mahjarrat.
