The Charter Ships (often simply called charter) are a fleet of merchant ships which form a fairly extensive shipping transport infrastructure across popular docks as well as ports in remote locations, run by a wealthy merchant named Trader Stan and his crew. Players can pay a fee ranging from 200 to 5,200 coins for transportation on the charter ships, depending on the distance between the start and destination. These fees can be reduced by 50% with completion of Cabin Fever or by wearing the Ring of Charos. If Cabin Fever is completed and a Ring of Charos is worn, the fee is reduced to 25% of its base cost. For example, to travel from Brimhaven to Civitas illa Fortis without the ring or quest completed costs 2,400. This can be reduced to 1,200 with either the ring or quest completion, or 600 with both.
Transportation time takes only a few seconds. During this, a map of Gielinor is displayed with the destinations labelled, with an animation of a ship travelling between them. The short travel time and wide variety of destinations, including some with few alternate methods of transportations, make charter ships an attractive option compared to other transportation systems. However, some charter ship routes can be significantly more expensive than other methods.
Trader crewmembers stand at the docks of each destination in the charter ships network, and Trader Stan himself is present at the Port Sarim dock. In addition to allowing players to charter the shipping network, the crewmembers also run Trader Stan's Trading Post, a more versatile and exotic form of a general store, which sells many items of interest as well as a few commodities which aren't stocked in specialty stores, such as Tyras helms, which are unavailable anywhere else.
Moving charter ships can be seen traveling between various ports while Sailing, crewed by unique versions of the trader crewmembers. These ships are mostly decorative, though they will stop the player's boat if collided with.
Transportation
Travelling by charter ship is very convenient for players who can afford it, especially since the release of Sailing. Some of the quickest ways to get to the ships are:
- Use the Sailors' amulet teleport to Deepfin Point, ~4 tiles away from the charter crew which is by far the fastest method.
- Use the Sailors' amulet teleport to Red Rock following partial completion of quest The Red Reef.
- Construction cape or Aldarin teleport tablets to teleport to the Aldarin house portal, which puts you close to the dock. If your house is in Aldarin, you could also use the Teleport to House spell or tablet.
- Sailors' amulet teleport to The Pandemonium.
- Use the Lunar spell Catherby Teleport and run south.
- Use a Pest Control teleport scroll and take the ship to Port Sarim, then go south east.
- Use the Fishing Trawler minigame teleport or the Lunar spell Khazard Teleport to Port Khazard.
- Use Rada's blessing to teleport to the Kourend Woodland, then run to the Land's End docks.
- Use an Ectophial to go to the Ectofuntus and enter Port Phasmatys. The docks are somewhat near the Port Phasmatys entrance.
- Use a Camelot Teleport and run south-east to Catherby and its docks.
- Use a Civitas Teleport and run east.
- Use an Ardougne Teleport to go to the Ardougne marketplace, run south to Captain Barnaby and take his boat to Brimhaven. The boat trip arrives at the Brimhaven docks.
- If your house is in Brimhaven, you might consider using Teleport to House spell or tablet and running north.
- A spirit tree in Port Sarim. Planting the spirit tree requires 83 Farming; using the spirit tree network requires completion of the Tree Gnome Village quest.
- Alternatively, you can use Explorer's Ring teleport to cabbage patch next to Port Sarim, or the Rat Pits Minigame Teleport.
- If your house is in Rimmington, you can teleport to your house and run east to Port Sarim. Alternatively you can run west and talk to Cabin Boy Colin to travel to Corsair Cove, where you can change and travel to your destination (requires completion of The Corsair Curse).

- F: Sunset Coast; entered Varlamore (unlocked after Children of the Sun)
