Civitas illa Fortis is the capital of Varlamore. Commonly referred to as Fortis by its inhabitants (as it was known as such before Varlamore's founding 900 years ago), the city is notable for its Perican-style architecture,[1] featuring several notable landmarks such as the Fortis Colosseum, Sunrise Palace, and the Grand Museum.

Transportation

The player must first travel to Civitas illa Fortis by travelling with Primio, located east of the Varrock east bank after completing Children of the Sun before other transportation methods listed below become usable. This will teleport players just north of the Bazaar.

Features

Fortis Colosseum

The Fortis Colosseum is a large stadium found atop the Fortis Cliffs at the eastern end of the city. Here, players can take on up to twelve waves of opponents, culminating with the final fight against Sol Heredit. Enemies will spawn in similarly to the TzHaar Fight Caves and Inferno, though additional reinforcements will also spawn in during the wave.

Players can obtain rewards such as sunfire fanatic armour and Dizana's quiver, as well as earn Glory, where certain amounts will give additional benefits throughout the city.

Stealing valuables

Stealing valuables is a low intensity thieving activity offering modest GP and experience rates that requires 50 Thieving to participate in. In this activity players obtain house keys in order to steal valuables from one of three houses inhabited by wealthy citizens. These valuables can then be sold to Oriana for 55 gold per valuable.

If pickpocketing wealthy citizens for their house keys, easy clue scrolls may be commonly obtained during the course of the activity. During the burgling portion of the activity, there is an uncommon chance to obtain jewellery up to diamond, as well as a rare chance to obtain a blessed bone statuette, which can be broken down into blessed bone shards that are used in Prayer training.

Grand Museum

The Grand Museum is located in the northern side of the city, east of the Sunrise Palace. Similar to the museum in Varrock, it has displays showing historic artefacts related to Varlamore's history. The armour of the Cloud Titan is displayed here, as well as the unique daggers that have been given to Kualti that served former rulers.

Outer Fortis

Outer Fortis part of the city itself, is found outside the main walls of Civitas illa Fortis. It has many farms around it to support the city population, and has a few shops and a pub.

Ortus Farm

Ortus Farm is a collection of farm buildings and fields on the west side of Civitas illa Fortis, outside of the city wall. It has a few fields with buffalos and alpacas. It also features allotment patches along with herb and flower patches.

Fortis Cothon

The Fortis Cothon is a large harbour on the north side of the city. Charter ships can be found here.

Charter ships

The charter ships can be found docked in Fortis Cothon. It provides rides to several other locations. After completing Cabin Fever, the charter ship fare is reduced by 50%. Wearing the Ring of Charos(a) also reduces the fare by 50%. These two bonuses can be stacked to reduce the cost to 25%.

Development history

During the development of the continent of Zeah, Civitas illa Fortis was supposed to be added to the continent in the third phase of the release, featuring a Colosseum that is a large arena akin to RuneScape 3's now-removed Duel Arena Tournament.[2] Just the combat ground of the arena is said to be as large as all six sections of Emir's Arena combined. Seatings encircle this central area, and the victorious combatants would be rewarded with the entrance fees of the spectators.[3]

Trivia

  • The appearance of the city is said to be inspired by Roman architecture.[4]
  • The city's name can be translated as "That Mighty City" from Latin.
