Port Phasmatys (Jagex: /fæzˈmætɪs/ faz-MAT-iss) is a small town located on the north-eastern coast of Morytania. Once a coastal hub, the town was decimated by vampyres and is now populated by ghosts, making a ghostspeak amulet or Morytania legs 2 necessary to talk to the majority of the inhabitants.

Entry to the town through the energy barriers requires two ecto-tokens, or none after completion of Ghosts Ahoy. Alternatively, a charter ship can be used to bypass the ecto-token requirement.

Transportation

Several transport options bring players into or close to Port Phasmatys, listed here with their arrival destination. From closest to farthest:

History

Port Phasmatys dates back to the late Fourth Age and was founded by human settlers who had travelled to Morytania, which at that time was not considered more dangerous than other places around Gielinor.[1][2] It was once a thriving port that frequently traded with those who came from the Eastern Lands until Lord Lowerniel Drakan, the ruler of Morytania, took notice of the humans settling in his kingdom and demanded that they paid blood tithes to the vampyres; the people of Port Phasmatys had no choice but to give in to his demands.[3]

Over time, their numbers dwindled, and many spoke of abandoning the town for safer lands when Necrovarus, a powerful mage from the Eastern Lands, arrived.[4] Claiming he had a vision of a great power beneath the town, a pool of ectoplasm was discovered deep below Phasmatys, and Necrovarus showed the citizens how to build the Ectofuntus. The Ectofuntus indeed repelled the vampyres, but it brought other issues. The people of the town began to lose any desire for food and water until their bodies shrivelled and died, and when a citizen died, they were unable to move on to the afterlife due to the psychic barrier created by Necrovarus, causing their ghosts to remain stuck in Port Phasmatys. This fate was Necrovarus' intention all along; eventually, there were no living inhabitants left, and the town fell into disrepair.[5]

The vampyres gave up trying to collect blood tithes as there was no longer any blood to harvest, and the Ectofuntus continued to repel vampyres regardless.[6] By this time, the town was mostly abandoned, but sailors, traders and pirates did occasionally visit. Any visitors to the town are required to worship the Ectofuntus as so to maintain the Ectopower that lets its residents stick around as ghosts. Eventually, an adventurer came along and freed the inhabitants from Necrovarus' control, allowing them to freely choose to pass on if they wished.

Locations

Ectofuntus

The temple for the Ectofuntus.

After starting the Ghosts Ahoy quest, you can worship the Ectofuntus to receive 4 times Prayer experience for every bone. Completing the quest will help immensely, as you can use the Ectophial to teleport back and forth, as well as bank at the town for free if needed. Players who have completed various levels of the Morytania Diary will be able to claim slime and bonemeal daily from Robin Hood in exchange for bones, as well as receive the ability to teleport to the slime pit several times a day.

Many players use amulets of glory or rings of dueling to teleport to a bank, as it is faster than running to the bank in Port Phasmatys. A ghostspeak amulet will still be needed to talk to the disciples.

Docks

The town docks connect to multiple ports across Gielinor. Ak-Haranu, a merchant from the Eastern Lands who runs Ak-Haranu's Exotic Shop, can also be found on the docks. He can sell players bolt racks to be used as ammunition for Karil's crossbow.

The northern docks, found just north of the town, contain Andras and Pirate Pete.

* Since travel to and from Mos Le'Harmless requires Cabin Fever to be completed anyway, the cost is already halved.

After completing Cabin Fever, the charter ship fare is reduced by 50%. Wearing the Ring of Charos(a) also reduces the fare by 50%. These two bonuses can be stacked to reduce the cost to 25%.

Buildings

The crumbling general store of Port Phasmatys.

Many of the ghosts require payment in ecto-tokens, which is the currency of the town, though the shop still uses coins. See the Ectofuntus guide above or the Ghosts Ahoy quest for a guide to obtaining ecto-tokens.

Name Description
Alice's farm A small farm with allotment, flower and herb patches, as well as a farming shop.
Bank A bank serviced by ghost bankers. Trying to use the bank without a ghostspeak amulet will always yield a message that, despite of the bankers' inability to talk to the player, they understand that the player wishes to use the bank after a "series of hand gestures." After the player dismisses the message, they can use the bank.
Melina's house An empty home in the middle of town. After Melina leaves during Making History, it's left with no inhabitants.
Furnace building One of the closest furnaces to a bank in the game, making it popular for players training Smithing and crafting molten glass.
The Green Ghost Inn and Brewery There is a brewery in the basement of the inn that is used in the Cooking. You may buy ale yeast from the brewer there using ecto-tokens.
Port Phasmatys General Store A general store that's notable because it stocks far more buckets and pots than any other shop. This is especially useful to players that need to buy the supplies necessary for Ectofuntus.
Sarah's house The home of Sarah Corvo, who plays a role in the Dragon Slayer II quest. Her home also contains a range, but it's rarely used.
Velorina's house A tiny home containing Velorina, who starts players on the Ghosts Ahoy quest.

Other

South of the town is the Morytania spider cave, a creepy cave containing the spider boss Araxxor. North of the town is the shipwreck, an old, derelict ship containing the old crone's lost son. There are also several yew trees in the area. There are no item spawns in this area.

Changes

Date Changes
1 October 2025
(Update)

The "Pass" and "Pay-toll" option have been combined into one option on the Port Phasmatys barrier for players who have completed Ghost Ahoy.

3 December 2015
(Update)

The one tick delay present when you used bank booths rather than bankers in Port Phasmatys has been removed – on top of this, a bank booth in Port Phasmatys was not giving a message for players not using an amulet of ghostspeak; this has been fixed.

Trivia

  • "Phásma" ("φάσμα") is Ancient Greek for apparition or phantom, referencing the town being inhabited by ghosts.

"4th Age - yr 1777 Temple records show that human settlers came to the temple on the River Salve looking for new lands in which to settle. While there were legends that the temple on the Salve was blocking great evil, they refused to heed the warnings of the then custodians of the temple, thinking them possibly behind the times or reciting old legends. The lands of Misthalin and Asgarnia weren't the safest places in the world - the human tribes of these times were having constant troubles with goblins, hobgoblins, giants, etc., so how much worse could Morytania have been? So, human settlers passed over the Salve into Morytania. The Museum recently came into possession of this torn map showing the expansion routes of the settlers."

Little by little, we began to lose any desire for food or water, and our desire for the Ectopower grew until it dominated our thoughts entirely. Our bodies shrivelled and, one by one, we died."
