Swamp Crabs are aggressive monsters that disguise themselves as swampy logs. When a player approaches them, they will attack in a fashion that is identical to Rock Crabs. However, unlike other crabs, the aggression range for Swamp Crabs is only 1 square wide, and they are notably more resistant to melee and magic. They can be found in multi-combat areas directly south of Port Phasmatys and along the path leading from Port Phasmatys to Slepe. It is recommended that lower-level players wanting to kill these stay near Port Phasmatys, as the path traverses through the Haunted Woods and players may encounter Feral Vampyres and Leeches.

Like all other crabs, swamp crabs start off aggressive but will become tolerant of the player after ten minutes. As they must be active in order to be fought, players must reset their aggression timer once they become tolerant. After aggression is lost the crabs can only be examined as a Swampy log, giving the message "A bit of decaying wood".

If a player casts bloom while fighting a Swamp Crab, then its "shell" will grow three Mort Myre Fungi, which will be dropped once it is killed. A good tactic to obtain additional fungi is to lure a Swamp Crab next to a Rotting log, which will also have a chance of spawning some fungi after casting bloom.

Unlike other crabs, Swamp Crabs boast higher melee and magic defence, so it is generally not recommended to use these attack styles. Rather, due to their significantly reduced ranged defence, they are ideal for low-level to mid-level Ranged training.
