A battlestaff is a members-only magic weapon which provides standard magical bonuses, heightened melee bonuses, and the autocast option when equipped. It requires 30 Attack and 30 Magic to wield. Due to not having any elemental features, this staff has limited long-term use. Its advantage over basic tier elemental staves and other lesser staves are its melee and magic bonuses.
The staff can be purchased from Zaff's Superior Staffs! in Varrock after the completion of the quest What Lies Below, and he'll stock 15 to 120 extra staves daily for players who have fully completed task tiers of the Varrock Diary (they can be obtained by interacting with the barrel in the north-west corner of the shop). The magic store owner in the Wizards' Guild and Baba Yaga on the Lunar Isle also stock them. It can also be bought on the Grand Exchange, obtained through other players, dropped by various enemies, or fletched from Celastrus bark with level 40 Fletching.
Battlestaves can be used to make elemental battlestaves. By using the appropriate (air, water, earth, fire) charge orb spell on an Obelisk with an unpowered orb in their inventory, a player can make an elemental orb, which can then be used on a battlestaff to make the corresponding elemental battlestaff. Elemental battlestaves can be upgraded to mystic staves by giving 40,000 to Thormac after the completion of the quest Scorpion Catcher. After completion of the Hard Kandarin Diary and Elite Kandarin Diary, Thormac will only require 30,000 and 20,000 respectively.
