The Chaos Fanatic is a relatively simple boss that resides west of the Lava Maze in level 42 Wilderness, surrounded by miniature chaotic clouds that serve as unattackable scenery. His special attack mechanic is similar to that of the crazy and deranged archaeologists.

The Chaos Fanatic is notable for dropping one of the three shards that form the malediction ward and odium ward, with the Crazy archaeologist and Scorpia dropping the other pieces. Killing all three at least once is a hard Wilderness Diary task.

He is one of the only monsters to drop the ancient staff, along with mummies, Calvar'ion, and the thermonuclear smoke devil.

The fastest way to reach the Chaos Fanatic is by casting Ghorrock Teleport or using its magic tablet equivalent. Alternatively, a burning amulet can teleport players to the entrance of the Lava Maze; run west from there. Alternatively, players with the hard Wilderness Diary completed and a POH obelisk can select the level 44 Wilderness teleport.

Fight overview

The Chaos Fanatic is located in single-way combat, meaning the player will be safe from player killers while in active combat with the boss.

He is weakest to Ranged attacks, particularly from standard ranged weapons. His main attack is a basic red-coloured Magic projectile with a max hit of 31, from which Protect from Magic negates all damage. He additionally has two special attacks.

For his first special attack, he will periodically cast an unavoidable green projectile that disarms the player. This special attack can be entirely negated by ensuring that the inventory is full at all times. This can be achieved by only using food that leaves behind an item, such as the summer pie, along with disabling potion smashing in the gameplay settings.

For his second special attack, he will periodically cast three slow-moving green projectiles toward the player which explode on impact with the ground. One of them always targets the tile the player is standing on when it's launched, and may be easily avoided by moving a small distance in any direction. Unlike the crazy and deranged archaeologists, this attack is not preceded by a specific voice line, though it is generally easier to avoid due to its slow speed and inaccuracy.

The explosion attack is always followed by a 12-attack cooldown during which he can only launch the standard red attacks, so players are free to look away from the screen for 24 ticks (14.4 seconds) after each explosion. Following the cooldown, and at the beginning of the fight, there is a 10/15 chance for him to launch a standard red attack, 4/15 to launch an explosion, and 1/15 to launch the disarming attack.

The Chaos Fanatic's idle animation is similar to Dr Harlow before he is sober.
The Chaos Fanatic's quote "I shall call him squidgy and he shall be my squidgy!" is a reference to the Pixar movie Finding Nemo.
The Chaos Fanatic's quote "All your wilderness are belong to them!" is a reference to the phrase "All your base are belong to us," which originated in the 1989 game Zero Wing and has made it into many games since then.
The Chaos Fanatic's quote "Devilish Oxen Roll!" is an anagram of "Lord Helix lives on!". This is a reference to a character in the first Twitch Plays Pokémon which ended on March 1st 2014, two weeks before the Chaos Fanatic was added to the game.
