Icthlarin's Little Helper

In the deep south of the desert, unrest is brewing... The cities of the Menaphites have barred their gates to all. An unsettling desert wanderer may know of a secret entrance though, to Sophanem - the city of the dead. Will you become Icthlarin's Little Helper by entering? Enter into a titanic struggle for the soul of the high priest of Icthlarin in a land where the cat is top dog.

Talk to the wanderer in the camp west of the Agility Pyramid.

BEFORE YOU LEAVE THE BANK

Preparation

Requirements are gates. Recommendations are comfort and risk controls, not mandatory levels unless the game enforces them.

Requirements

  • Completion of Quest Gertrude's Cat
  • The ability to defeat a level 91 monster.

Items required

  • Regular or overgrown cat, hellcat, or kitten. No food is required as the kitten can stay in your inventory for the most part, or automatically go in/out of your inventory.
  • Tinderbox
  • Willow log
  • Bag of salt (can be bought from any Slayer Master, other players, or the Grand Exchange) or an empty bucket to obtain a pile of salt in Sophanem
  • Bucket of sap (use a knife on an evergreen tree or a regular tree with the description "a commonly found tree" with a bucket in your inventory)
  • Full waterskin to give away (can be bought for 30 coins at Shantay pass)
  • Linen (Can be bought on The Grand Exchange or bought from Raetul in Sophanem for 30 coins during the quest)
  • Means to enter the desert. (Such as the Shantay pass, Teleport tablets or scrolls, Fairy rings or the Pharaoh's sceptre)

Recommended

  • 50 Combat
  • 35 Agility Agility to jump over the pit in the pyramid (higher agility helps even more)
  • Waterskins for the desert heat
  • Knife to refill waterskins
  • Desert clothing to delay the desert heat effect
  • 1–2 antipoison or superantipoison potions
  • Energy potions
  • Antidote, or other anti-poison potions
  • Nardah teleport
  • Armour and some food
  • Ghostspeak amulet for story comprehension (Klenter)

  • Possessed Priest (level 91)
  • One of the level 75–81 guardians (chosen based on your stats):
  • Apparition#Apmeken (level 75)—uses Magic
  • Apparition#Crondis (level 75)—uses Magic
  • Apparition#Scabaras (level 75)—uses Melee
  • Apparition#Het (level 81)—uses Melee

Ironman notes

  • A method to obtain willow logs:
  • 30 Woodcutting (boostable) to cut willow trees
  • 1/16 drop from Vampyre Juvinates (requires starting In Aid of the Myreque Quest)
  • 1/128 drop from Swamp Crabs (requires Priest in Peril Quest)

Starting out

  1. 01

    Talk to the Wanderer north-east of Sophanem (see picture) and ask why she has a problem with your cat. Dialogue: Why? What's your problem with it? → Ok I'll get your supplies.

  2. 02

    Talk to the Wanderer again to give her a tinderbox and waterskin(4). Dialogue: Yes. I have them all here.

  3. 03

    Touch the door of the pyramid where you wake up.

The first flashback

  1. 01

    Navigate by clicking the minimap to automatically avoid the traps.

  2. 02

    Jump the pit (20% minimum energy required, higher Agility increases your chances).

  3. 03

    Go west and open the door.

  4. 04

    Click on the large golden bird to reset the puzzle until it lands on the solution shown in the image on this page. Then click the tiles indicated on the picture.

The sphinx

  1. 01

    Drop your cat and talk to the Sphinx, ask for help. Dialogue: I need help. → Okay, that sounds fair.

  2. 02

    Riddle answer: 9. Dialogue: . → Totally positive.(if you give the wrong answer your cat will disappear)

  3. 03

    Talk to the High Priest to the south-west.

The second flashback

  1. 01

    Return to the pyramid (right-click door and open) and jump the pit again to trigger the next flashback.

  2. 02

    Open the western door (directly south of you) and take the canopic jar back (you can only pick up the correct one).

  3. 03

    A level 75 or 81 enemy (see the guardians in the info box above) will appear, kill it and take the jar.

  4. 04

    Leave the room and jump across the pit.

  5. 05

    Jump back across the pit.

  6. 06

    Solve the western door puzzle and drop the jar where you found it.

  7. 07

    Leave the room again and jump across the pit once more.

  8. 08

    Exit the pyramid via the entrance ladder.

Preparing for the ceremony

  1. 01

    Talk to the High Priest. Dialogue: Sure, no problem.

  2. 02

    Go to the house south of the church and talk to the Embalmer to give him the linen, salt, and sap.

  3. If you don't have a linen, go north-east to the Spinning Wheel and talk to Raetul to buy linen for 30 coins. (Must need to ask the embalmer where to find linen befor Reatul let you buy linen)

  4. If you need a pile of salt, it can be found by using an empty bucket on the pond north of Sophanem and then using the full bucket on the suntrap east of the Embalmer.

  5. 03

    Go east and talk to the Carpenter. He will take your willow logs and give you a holy symbol.

The third flashback

  1. 01

    Enter the pyramid (right click, open door).

  2. 02

    Jump the gap again to trigger the 3rd flashback.

  3. 03

    Enter the east door and use the holy/unholy symbol on any sarcophagus. Exit the room.

  4. 04

    Jump back across the pit and enter the eastern room again.

  5. 05

    Kill the level 91 Possessed Priest.

  6. 06

    Talk to the High Priest.

The fourth flashback

  1. 01

    Exit the pyramid.

  2. 02

    Talk to the High Priest in the temple.

  3. 03

    Congratulations, quest complete!
