Preparation
Requirements are gates. Recommendations are comfort and risk controls, not mandatory levels unless the game enforces them.
Items required
- Bucket of milk
- 100 coins
- Seasoned sardine (Bought from the Grand Exchange) or alternatively:
- Raw sardine (can be bought from Gerrant's Fishy Business.)
- Doogle leaves (obtainable during the quest)
Recommended
- Ring of Charos(a) (to choose the colour of your kitten)
- Axe and 100 coins to cut down a dying tree in the Lumber Yard and create a normal plank for two easy Varrock Diary tasks.
- Fast travel to several locations
- Cooks' Guild in Varrock (2 trips) - Skills necklace or Varrock Teleport or Ring of wealth to Grand Exchange or Chronicle
- Lumberyard east of Varrock (1 trip) - Lumberyard Teleport or Ring of the elements

Walkthrough

Pick up doogle leaves from behind Gertrude's house and use them on your raw sardine to make seasoned sardine.
- 02
Go to Varrock Square's newsstand and talk to either Shilop or Wilough, you need 100 coins. Dialogue: What will make you tell me? → Okay then, I'll pay.

Go to the Lumber Yard north-east of Varrock and climb-over the broken fence.

Chop down a dying tree to complete an easy Varrock Diary task.

Go up the ladder in the middle of the Lumber Yard.
- 05
Use a bucket of milk and a Seasoned sardine on Gertrude's cat then go back down the ladder.
- 06
Search the crates with a yellow "Search crate" option and a yellow "Mew!" above them until you find Fluffs' kitten. (Searching the same crate repeatedly will not work.)
- 07
Go back up the ladder and use Fluffs' kitten on Gertrude's cat.

Return to Gertrude.

Congratulations, quest complete!
