QUEST 117 · MEMBERS

Contact!

The High Priest of Icthlarin has problems again - this time with the inhabitants of Menaphos. Sophanem is recovering from the plague, yet most of its citizens are still trapped on the other side of the river. Diplomacy has failed and subterfuge beckons. Clearly, this is the sort of job that a shifty adventurer could excel in.

Talk to the High Priest of Icthlarin in Sophanem.

BEFORE YOU LEAVE THE BANK

Preparation

Requirements are gates. Recommendations are comfort and risk controls, not mandatory levels unless the game enforces them.

Requirements

  • Completion of the following quests:
  • Prince Ali Rescue
  • Icthlarin's Little Helper
  • Gertrude's Cat

Items required

  • A light source (Kandarin headgear, Firemaking cape, Abyssal lantern, or a bruma torch are strongly recommended as they can't be extinguished by traps in the dungeon). If you don't have one, the Sophanem guard under the temple of the lesser deities will sell you an unlit torch for 200 coins.
  • A tinderbox (unless you have a non extinguishable light source such as Kandarin headgear, Firemaking cape, Abyssal lantern, or a bruma torch). If you don't have one, the Sophanem guard will sell you one for 50 coins.

Recommended

  • 70 Combat
  • 50 Agility
  • 50 Thieving
  • 40 Prayer for using Protect from Missiles against the Giant Scarab boss if ranging or maging, otherwise the fight may prove very difficult. Melee users should pray Protect from Melee instead, requiring 43 Prayer.
  • Antipoison potion
  • Combat equipment
  • Food
  • Prayer potions
  • The Pharaoh's sceptre or a Nardah teleport (to get to Sophanem)
  • 3 Nardah teleports to get to Nardah
  • An emergency escape teleport
  • Desert robes
  • Waterskins
  • A ring of dueling or amulet of glory (to quickly return to Al Kharid)
  • ~800 coins (if using Magic carpet transportation)
  • A Shantay pass (entry to the Kharidian Desert)

Enemies to defeat

  • Giant Scarab (level 191)
  • Summoned by the Giant Scarab:
  • Locust rider (level 68) - Ranged and melee
  • Scarab Mages (level 119 & 66)

Walkthrough

  1. 01

Talk to the High Priest in Sophanem. Dialogue: Sounds like a quest for me; I can't turn that down! → Is there any way into Menaphos from below?

  2. 02

Go to the most north-eastern building in Sophanem and talk to Jex. Dialogue: Better get down there.

  3. 03

Climb-down the ladder in the building, then the trapdoor.

  4. 04

Follow the red line on the map to the ladder and/or use the provided tile markers for guidance. Protection from magic is recommended. It is also recommended to turn off auto-retaliate in the combat tab.

  5. 05

You will encounter one scarab trap via this path. BE HIGHLY CAUTIOUS as triggering it would drop you to a multi combat lower level.

  6. 06

Green markers indicate the correct direction to travel when the path forks.

  7. 07

Yellow markers indicate the correct tiles to stand on carefully, when dealing with traps or other threats.

  8. 08

    Red markers contain other warnings.

  9. 09

    Search Kaleef's body.

  10. 10

    Read the parchment.

  11. 11

Talk to Maisa to the west. Dialogue: Draynor Village → Leela

  12. 12

Speak to Osman in front of the Al Kharid palace. Dialogue: I want to talk to you about Sophanem → It would drive a wedge between the Menaphite cities.

  13. 13

Travel to Sophanem and speak to Osman again outside the gates. Dialogue: I know of a secret entrance to the north.

  14. 14

Navigate the tunnels to the ladder again.

  15. 15

Kill the level 191 Giant scarab.

  16. If you decide to mage the Giant Scarab, it can be safespotted by standing near Kaleef's body, use Protect from Missiles. Note: The Giant Scarab can still spawn mages and riders that can attack you which you should be highly careful of. The Giant Scarab CAN extinguish bullseye lanterns; bring a tinderbox.

  17. 16

    Talk to Osman.

  18. 17

Pick up Keris if you wish (needed for Desert hard diary).

  19. (Tip: Do not teleport out if you wish to complete a task for Desert hard diary, instead return to the maze and kill a Locust rider with the Keris.)

  20. 18
