Al Kharid is a large city in the north of the Kharidian Desert, and the only desert city open to non-members. Players in the city do not suffer from the desert effect.
Al Kharid is popular among free-to-play players because it contains one of the closest banks to a range and to a furnace, two reasonably close fishing spots, and a tanner, Ellis. Also popular is the nearby mining site, which contains almost all ores up to and including adamant.
Transportation

Amulet of glory — ground floor[UK]1st floor[US] of the palace.
Gnome glider — northern Al Kharid.
Ring of dueling — Emir's Arena, just north-east of Al Kharid.
Ring of the elements — near to the Fire Altar entrance, north of the city.
Minigame teleport — Sorceress's Garden. Usable once every 20 minutes, and only after asking Osman/Selim if they need any help.
Achievement diary cape — Shantay Pass, just south of the city.
Desert amulet 4 — Kalphite cave, near the Shantay Pass.
Cowbell amulet — inside the cow field, just beyond the western gate.
Lumbridge Teleport — Lumbridge Castle, decently west of the city.
From Lumbridge, players can use the toll gate which costs either 10 coins, or nothing if you have completed the Prince Ali Rescue quest. Alternatively, members can use the level 8 Agility shortcut to grapple to and from the Lumbridge Swamp.
From Varrock, players can go south via the road alongside the Al Kharid mine. Members can also get to Al Kharid via the one-way fairy ring from Zanaris' market area, which brings them to the bank.

History
The city of Al Kharid was established early in the Fifth Age, after settlers established Lumbridge nearby in the year 1937 of the Fourth Age.[2] The city later came in conflict with Menaphos in the Al Kharid–Menaphos War, though the two cities are now currently at a shaky peace.[3]
Recently, in the year 169, Prince Ali, the Emir's son, was kidnapped by the infamous Lady Keli. However, Chancellor Hassan was able to enlist an adventurer to rescue the prince. The city is still ruled by the Emir, although the vast majority of the work has been taken over by Hassan as the Emir spends most of his time resting these days due to his poor health and old age.[4]
