Shantay Pass

The Shantay Pass is a small area that separates Al Kharid from the Kharidian Desert. Players will need to have 5 coins to buy a pass from Shantay, or have completed the elite Desert Diary, if they wish to enter the desert.

The Shantay Pass has a bank chest which players can access before entering the desert. The bank is only available to members, but the deposit box is available in free-to-play.

Due to the fact that the bank can be accessed through Shantay himself, he is considered a teller; for this reason, the Shantay Pass is considered a bank. The Shantay Pass was the 18th bank added to RuneScape, and the tenth bank available to members only.

The Shantay Pass Shop is a shop owned by Shantay, which sells items similar to Ali's Discount Wares.

Players may also start the Tourist Trap quest here by talking to the crying lady through the pass, to the south.

To get arrested and placed in a cell at Port Sarim, players can do the following:

Talk to Shantay and ask "What is this place?". If this is not the first time being arrested, or the player had already been arrested but had not talked to Shantay before, complete the dialogue and then repeat this.

After that, say "I am definitely an outlaw, prepare to die!". You will be locked up in the small cell at the Shantay Pass.

Refuse to pay the 5 coins two times. You will get sent to the jail at Port Sarim. To escape, right-click on the door and select the option to picklock it. After some time picking the cell door's lock, you will escape and are free to walk around. Note that this will give the player Thieving experience, but only on a members server. Also, no equipment is required and can be done by free players.
