The keris is a one-handed stab sword and dagger dropped by the Giant Scarab toward the end of the Contact! quest, and is the precursor to the keris partisan. It deals 33% bonus damage against all kalphites and scabarites, and has a 1/51 chance of puncturing a hole in their exoskeleton, dealing triple damage. When the special effect occurs, the chatbox will display the game message: You slip your dagger through a gap in the creature's chitin, landing a vicious blow. This message is not displayed if the effect deals less than 10 damage, which can cause the activation frequency to appear lower than it is in reality.[1]
The keris requires 50 Attack to wield. Like most daggers, it can be poisoned. It has offensive melee stats similar to the dragon dagger albeit slightly weaker. Its +2 prayer bonus makes it one of the three daggers to provide one, the others being Wolfbane with +5 and the white dagger with +1. It is needed to kill a locust rider for a Hard Desert Diary task.
It is lost on death if it is not protected, and can be retrieved from Osman, (or Selim, after Beneath Cursed Sands), for a fee of 20,000. Alternatively, it can be reclaimed from Perdu for a fee of 25,000.

| 21 September 2022 (Update) |
The word "chink" has been swapped with "gap" when players deal a critical hit to kalphites and scabarites with the keris. ("You slip your weapon through a chink in the creature's chitin, landing a vicious blow.") |
| 7 July 2021 (Update) |
The position of the weapon and its variants on female players has been adjusted so that they appear to be equipped properly. |
Trivia
- Originally, Osman claimed that it was created by followers of Elidinis specifically to smite the followers of Scabaras.[2] After the dialogue updates with Beneath Cursed Sands however, this dialogue was removed, and he now simply says that "the enchantments upon them make them very useful against both scarabs and kalphites".
- Keris is one of five daggers with its blade pointing down; the other four are the dragon dagger, abyssal dagger, killer's knife, and hunting knife.
- The keris is based on a real-world weapon, the kris (sometimes kêrìs), originating from the Javanese culture in Indonesia.

Though it only tells you this has happened if the result is >10; if the keris triggers but the resulting damage is still low, you just don't get told about it."

As far as we have been able to determine, it was created by worshippers of Elidinis in order to smite the followers of Scabaras. They are specially enchanted against both scarab creatures and kalphites...which is odd, since we thought the two races to be entirely different."
