Olaf's Quest

Poor Olaf Hradson. He has to live up to such expectations. His ancestors sailed all over the world, and now he has to go out and prove himself their equal. If only he could read a map... If only he could sail... If only he hadn't crashed! Can you help a depressed and soggy Fremennik regain his pride, and possibly the lost treasure of his grandfather?

START POINT

Talk to Olaf Hradson east of Rellekka, just south of the Rellekka Hunter area.

Preparation

Requirements are gates. Recommendations are comfort and risk controls, not mandatory levels unless the game enforces them.

Requirements

  • Completion of The Fremennik Trials
  • 40 Firemaking (boostable)
  • 50 Woodcutting (boostable)
  • The ability to defeat a level 100 monster

Items required

  • Any woodcutting axe
  • Tinderbox
  • Spade
  • 6 Ropes (obtainable during the quest)
  • 4 free inventory slots (10 if not bringing your own ropes)

Recommended

  • 50+ Combat
  • 50+ Agility is an advantage (57+ for Rellekka east fence shortcut)
  • Combat equipment (using Crumble Undead and/or a salve amulet (i) is useful here as all enemies are undead)
  • Food and prayer potions
  • Summer pies or agility potions
  • Stamina or energy potions
  • Fast travel to Olaf (Fairy Rings to DKS, Enchanted Lyre, Fremennik sea boots, House teleport if your house is in Rellekka, or Slayer ring to Fremennik Slayer Dungeon)

Enemies to defeat

  • Skeleton fremennik (level 40)
  • Ulfric (level 100) (safespottable)

Starting out

  1. 01

    Talk to Olaf Hradson west of fairy ring DKS. Dialogue:

    Chop the windswept tree up the mountain to the east and just north of the fairy ring and obtain Windswept Logs.

  3. 03

    Take the logs back to Olaf.

Helping Olaf

  1. 01

    Travel to Rellekka and talk to Ingrid Hradson who is near the well (water drop on map) (Enchanted Lyre or Fremennik sea boots 1).

  2. 02

    Talk to Volf Olafson who is outside the helmet shop to the north.

  3. 03

    Return to, and talk to Olaf (Teleport to a Fairy Ring, or use the agility shortcut to the East)

  4. 04

    Use the damp planks on the fire pit (embers) next to Olaf.

  5. 05

    Talk to Olaf again. Dialogue:

Treasure trail

  1. 01

    Return to the tree and dig next to it.

  2. 02

    Go all the way east in the tunnel and then north.

  3. 03

    (Optional): Kill a brine rat here to complete a Fremennik Medium Diary achievement (requires 47 Slayer).

  4. 04

    Kill a skeleton fremennik and pick up the key it drops.

  5. 05

    Search the picture wall to the far west.

  6. East, North, West, South, and then the very bottom ("Confirm").

  7. 06

    Search the wall again to walk through.

  8. 07

    Pick up two rotten barrels and six ropes in the next room.

  9. 08

    Go to the bridge to the north-east and use the barrels on the missing portions; a higher level Agility helps (If you fall, you will need to go through the cave again.) (Recommended: stamina potions.)

  10. 09

    Open the gate.

  11. Pick the shape that matches the loop part of the shown key. If you fall after opening the gate, you will need to retrieve a new key.

  12. If you fall off the bridge after opening the gate, you have to reobtain a key to open the gate in the middle again.

Finishing up

  1. 01

    Search the chest located in the old ship and kill Ulfric (level 100, uses melee).

  2. The safespot for Ulfric is the dirt north of his grave stone

  3. 02

    Search the chest again.

  4. 03

    Congratulations, quest complete!

  • Access to a cave where you can fight brine rats.
