The desert mining camp is a slave camp located south of Al Kharid in the Kharidian Desert, run by Captain Siad. Prisoners from Al Kharid are sent to the mining camp to serve out their sentences in the mines. However, others are also enslaved here, which players see during The Tourist Trap quest.
Transportation
The camp can be reached by walking south from Shantay Pass. When travelling the desert to the camp, players are advised to bring a water source, such as waterskins, to avoid the effects of desert heat. Once inside the camp, water is no longer needed. Players can skip the ride by taking a magic carpet to fly to Pollnivneach, and walking west to the camp.
Alternative routes to the camp include:
Teleport to House — Pollnivneach house portal, south-east of the camp. Requires a POH there.
Construction cape — Pollnivneach house portal.
Fairy ring BIQ — to the north-west of the camp.
Desert amulet 4 — kalphite cave, north of the camp.
Necklace of passage to the Eagle's Eyrie — just north-west of the ruins.
Nardah teleport — Nardah, a long run south-east of the camp.
Camulet, requiring players to run north past the Bandit Camp, then east around the mountains.
Pharaoh's sceptre — Jaldraocht (ancient pyramid), requiring players to run north-west and then east, around the mountains.
The camp
A troop of mercenaries guard stand by the entrance to the camp. Entering the camp requires the metal key, which can be placed on the steel key ring. The key is first obtained in the Tourist Trap quest by fighting the mercenary captain.
Slaves work throughout the mines, with level 45 guards watching them. Guards may attack players that have armour or weapons equipped. Slave robes seem to be included as well. Two rowdy slaves in the underground section of the mines can be talked with, causing them to become aggressive to the player. Rowdy slaves will drop a slave shirt, a slave robe, and slave boots, which can be used as a disguise to access the deepest parts of the mines.
Surface
Inside the camp is a camel cart, a winch, the entrance to the underground mines, and the headquarters of Captain Siad. Siad's table can be searched for a cell door key, which opens the door to the prison cell door on the ground floor. The table also provides the metal key if lost or discarded during the quest. After the quest, searching Siad's table will provide the two aforementioned keys, as well as the wrought iron key.
If players are thrown in the cell and do not have the key, they can still escape by bending the bars on the window and climbing down the rocks into the desert.
Treasure Trails

Searching the crates in the centre of the Desert Mining Camp is the solution to the medium cryptic clue: This crate is mine, all mine, even if it is in the middle of the desert.
Underground level
Further mines can be accessed by going down via the mine doors:

Trivia
- Almost anything equipped other than jewellery seems to qualify as armour or weapons, which eventually causes the guards to attack the player. Slave robes should be equipped or not have anything equipped other than jewellery.
- Ugthanki dung can be collected from the cart camel with a bucket if My Arm's Big Adventure is completed.
- A guard will initially stop players attempting to leave the camp through the main gate if they're wearing slave robes, but it's possible to leave by repeatedly clicking on the gate.
- When in the south-eastern part of the mines, a part of another dungeon to the east can be seen. It appears to be part of the Smoke Dungeon, although that seems like it should be south of the camps' mines rather than to the east.
