Flax

Flax is a resource that can be picked from plants in various locations around Gielinor. Multiple can be collected from the same plant. Flax can also be harvested from a hops patch after planting flax seeds with 18 Farming.

It is used to make bow strings at a spinning wheel, requiring 10 Crafting, yielding 15 Crafting experience. Flax can also be spun via the Spin Flax Lunar spell. It is also used to spin linen yarn or as payment to protect hemp plants (x6). Linen yarn can be used to build a linen trawling net or woven into bolts of linen, which can be used to upgrade masts and sails on a player's boat.

Completing the Kandarin Diary allows players to exchange noted flax with the flax keeper once a day in exchange for bow strings. The easy diary unlocks 30 per day, medium 60 per day, hard 120 per day, and elite 250 per day.

Flax in the Tree Gnome Stronghold does not exist in Deadman Mode worlds.

Flax can be found in many locations around Gielinor, however the following are optimal for most purposes:

• The fastest way to pick flax is in Nemus Retreat in Varlamore, by picking the flax and using it on the nearby tool leprechaun to turn into bank notes. This requires completion of Children of The Sun.
• The closest flax to a bank is found in Prifddinas, near the north-west bank, requiring completion of Song of the Elves.
• The next closest is in Lletya, requiring starting Mourning's End Part I.
• The closest no-requirement flax to a bank is in Land's End.
• The closest flax to a spinning wheel and bank is in Nemus Retreat.
• Another good option with both a spinning wheel and bank is Seers' Village. Furthermore, with the medium Kandarin Diary completed, players will spin flax 33% faster than normal at this spinning wheel.
• Quetzacalli Gorge also contains both a spinning wheel and bank, and the flax field is closer to the wheel than in Seer's. Children of the Sun is required to access Varlamore.
• Flax can also be obtained through Managing Miscellania, requiring completion of Throne of Miscellania.

• The fastest way to spin flax is by using the Spin Flax Lunar spell, netting up to ~6,000 bowstrings per hour.
• The spinning wheel closest to a bank is in the Crafting Guild, requiring 99 Crafting or completion of the hard Falador Diary for access to the bank.

• The spinning wheel closest to both a flax spawn and a bank is in Nemus Retreat in Varlamore, requiring completion of Children of The Sun.

• Another great option for a spinning wheel close to both a flax spawn and a bank is in Seers' Village. Additionally, with the medium Kandarin Diary completed, players will spin flax 33% faster than normal at this spinning wheel.

• The closest spinning wheel to a bank without requirements is on the middle floor of Lumbridge Castle, taking about 75 seconds for a full inventory.
• A low click-intensity option is the spinning wheel on Fossil Island, which requires the completion of Bone Voyage, and must be built by the player in the Museum Camp, requiring level 28 Construction.
• The spinning wheel on Neitiznot is another low click-intensity option, requiring The Fremennik Isles to be progressed to where the player reaches the island, early in the quest.
