Museum Camp

The museum camp is a small camp on Fossil Island, established by the Varrock Museum expedition. At first arrival, the camp will not be very useful, but players can utilise the Construction skill to build improvements within the camp.

Fossil Island can be reached via the barge from the Digsite. After arriving on Fossil Island via the canal barge, the player will be just west of the Museum Camp. There are also several teleports which can be used, listed here:

• Digsite pendant — top of the Digsite, near the barge.
• Ring of the elements — earth altar, a small run from north-west of the barge.
• Volcanic mine teleport — volcanic mine, on south-eastern Fossil Island.
• Digsite teleport — eastern entrance of the Digsite.
• Gnome glider — eastern entrance of the Digsite.
• Lumberyard teleport — the lumberyard, a medium run from the barge.
• Senntisten teleport — exam centre, a long run from the barge.

There are three tents pitched in the base camp. Players can build the following features in them:

In total, players will need the following items to build everything, taking up exactly 28 slots, or one full inventory:

After building all of the camp improvements, players can speak to Peter (by the rowboat) to receive five unidentified small fossils. These can be stored in the nearby fossil storage crate.

There is also a poll booth in the bank tent, which can be used without needing to be build.

• The Fossil Island mine is found immediately to the east of the camp. The mine contains two runite rocks and five adamantite rocks, as well as three mithril, 20 coal, and seven iron rocks to mine.
• Players can go soil digging within the camp. with the help of tools such as the trowel, rock pick, specimen brush, leather gloves and boots (which can all be found in a crate next to the fossil cleaning bench), dig up numulites by using the tools on soil found in the archaeological digs all around the camp. Doing this grants 5 Mining experience per attempt.
• Immediately to the north-west, through a tunnel under the hill, are three hardwood tree patches.
• Around the north-west quadrant of the camp are several herbiboar spawns.

A number of other Fossil Island training spots can be found immediately after departing the camp.

Just outside the general store is a notice board that lists things to do on Fossil Island. These are simple mini-tasks that are meant to introduce the player to the various content the island has to offer. The list is split into four sections: the Museum Camp, the Northern Reaches, the Southern Swamps, and the Mountainous East.

Players who have completed a section of the list can speak to Peter, who can be found panning south-west of the notice board, for a reward. Players who complete the list for the Museum Camp and Northern Reaches will receive 10 unidentified small fossils (5 per section), and completing the list for the Southern Swamps and Mountainous East will give 10 unidentified medium fossils (5 per section).

• Charles, a natural historian who believes the island has an accelerated rate of evolution.
• David, who relaxes at the camp after doing very little on the way there.
• Tray, who can be pet. They are owned by the fossil collector.
• The Fossil Collector, who by her own admission is obsessed with fossils.
• Jardric, a former boatman and now a researcher for Keldagrim.
• John, a crewmember who gets some rest at the camp fire.
• John, an archaologist who talks about soil digging.
• Mattimeo, a bird-watcher who doesn't want the island's birds to be trapped.
• Peter, a man busily panning on the shore.
• A shop keeper, who runs the Fossil Island general store.

• The Museum Camp contains one of the game's few toilets. Strangely, though there is no non-player character inside the outhouse, attempting to open the door will cause a man inside to yell Occupied! This is in contrast to the Hosidius Vinery outhouse which is occupied by Man (Hosidius Vinery toilet).
