Ammunition

On this page

Ammunition is worn equipment primarily in the ammunition slot that is usually consumed by Ranged weapons. Bows use arrows, crossbows use bolts, ballistae use javelins, and the toxic blowpipe uses darts. The level required on the tables below is equivalent to the weapon requirement to use that ammunition, e.g., mithril arrows can only be used with willow bows and higher, requiring a minimum of 20 Ranged.

Ammunition is also one of the main products of the Fletching skill, the other being ranged weapons themselves.

Ammunitions have specific damage types similar to the melee styles of Stab, Slash, and Crush, though they only apply to monsters. For example, some monsters such as dragons have less defence against heavy ammunition than light and standard ones. A list of some monsters with weak defence against a particular ammunition type can be found on this news post.

  • Light: Thrown weapons such as darts, knives, thrownaxes, and Toktz-xil-ul
  • Standard: Arrows and Atlatl darts (including magical arrows from bows that produce their own ammunition, such as the Crystal bow and Bow of Faerdhinen)
  • Heavy: Bolts and javelins

Trivia

  • The ammunition slot is sometimes referred to as the player's 'quiver.' Trying to attack with certain weapons without equipping ammunition results in the message There is no ammo left in your quiver. Likewise, trying to fill Dizana's quiver with ammo from the Worn Equipment tab while no ammo is equipped results in the message You have nothing in your worn quiver to fill your Dizana's Quiver with.[sic]
