Ruby bolts (e) are adamant bolts that have been enchanted after having been tipped with ruby bolt tips. Ruby bolts can be enchanted with the spell Enchant Crossbow Bolt (Ruby) by a player with level 49 Magic, requiring 46 Ranged to wield. The spell enchants 10 ruby bolts at a time and uses 1 blood rune, 1 cosmic rune, and 5 fire runes.

Ruby bolts (e) have a chance of activating the Blood Forfeit effect. When activated, damage dealt to the target will be 20% of the opponent's current Hitpoints with a cap of 100 damage^[1] at the cost of 10% of the player's current Hitpoints. The effect does not activate if the player cannot spare at least 1 hitpoint. A long, shrieking noise can be heard when this activates.

This effect rolls its chance of activation regardless of whether or not it passes an accuracy roll.

For opponents standing at low hitpoints, this effect may be disadvantageous as it overrides the projectile's damage; for example, the effect might only cause 15 damage whereas a regular hit would cause 30. For this reason, it is often useful to also bring onyx bolts (e) or diamond bolts (e) to use at the end of a fight when ruby bolts cause diminishing returns.

This enchantment is especially effective against opponents with a high number of Hitpoints, oftentimes bosses such as Vorkath and Nex. The bolts' effects are disabled when fighting Yama under the Contract of Glyphic Attenuation.

The special effect has a 11% chance of activating in PvP and a 6% chance of activating in PvM. If the player has completed the Hard Kandarin Diary then these values increase to 12.1% and 6.6% respectively. The Kandarin Diary boost is always active regardless of whether the headgear is equipped.^[2]

Ruby bolts (e) are particularly powerful in conjunction with the Zaryte crossbow's special attack, which (if the player passes an accuracy roll to successfully hit their target with the special attack) will guarantee the effect of these bolts with 10% boosted effectiveness for a max hit of up to 110.

Note: The Blood Forfeit effect gives full experience for the damage dealt from it.
