The Temple Guardian (also known as Spots)[1] is a dog-like monster that dwells in the entrance of the underground passageway to Canifis. During the Priest in Peril quest, the player is tricked into killing it by the monks of Zamorak that have taken over the temple of Paterdomus.

Magic or a cannon cannot be used to kill it; attacking it with magic will result in the message Your spells do not seem to affect it.. It can be killed without gaining combat experience using rings of recoil, though at least 1 damage must be dealt by the player for the kill to count.

The temple guardian will not respawn after being killed. It is considered a dog in regards to slayer tasks.

Trivia

  • Prior to an update that made the Temple Guardian no longer respawn after the quest, the player will receive the message "I'd better not make the King mad at me again!" if they tried to attack it post-quest. This refers to what happened during the aforementioned quest.
  • Prior to their graphical update in 2007, Dark beasts looked like a brown version of the Temple Guardian.
  • According to King Roald III of Misthalin in issue 23 of the Postbag from the Hedge, the Temple Guardian's nickname is 'Spots', and claims "he's a pedigree light beast - or er, was it dark beast".[1]
