Zul-Andra is a small village located south of Port Tyras. It is inhabited by villagers devoted to Zulrah, a large serpent that lives in the Poison Waste, whom they see as a god.

Transportation

Zul-Andra can be reached in several ways, all of which require completion of Regicide. Listed here in order from closest to furthest:

History

The following lore is sourced from Ohn's diary.

The land was first settled by Harcinqa, her mother, and her brother Rentos, who came from the gnome city of Arposandra in the mountains to the east. Later, a group of elves led by Ohn, being pursued by the elven clans to the north, ended up lost in the swamp, but ran into the gnome camp. With no food to eat, and being unable to catch any eels in the swamp themselves, they set up camp with the gnomes.

During the night, Zulrah attacked the camp, and ate five of Ohn's men. Ohn encouraged everyone to flee, but Harcinqa's mother suggested that they build a big campfire and offer the serpent a sacrifice. Horrifyingly, the sacrifice was her son, Rentos. The serpent swallowed Rentos whole, after which Harcinqa offered to bring it regular sacrifices and worship it as a god. Zulrah simply slithered back into the swamp, which the group took as agreement. The next day, the men were able to catch some eels, which Harcinqa's mother believed to be Zulrah's doing.

Sacrifices continue to this day in order to ensure the village's survival, with Harcinqa becoming the High Priestess after the death of her mother. Adventurers and their families regularly find themselves in the area, and are offered the eels for food; unbeknownst to them, however, the eels eat Zulrah's discarded scales, causing the people who eat them to be seen by those around them as unclean. Rejected by their communities, these wanderers thus return to the village, joining the cycle of sacrifice.

Locations

The village is quite minimal, featuring nothing but three small wooden buildings that are rotting apart. There is also a dock, which players can board to be taken to Zulrah's shrine.

Just south-east of High Priestess Zul-Harcinqa is a bank deposit chest that is not marked on the map. In order to use it, players must first volunteer themselves as sacrifice to Zulrah by speaking to High Priestess Zul-Harcinqa. If players attempt to use the box before, they will be told by Zul-Urgish that they cannot use the deposit box because they are not one of them. The chest building also contains a crate with Ohn's diary, which explains the village's history.

The village also contains several fishing spots for sacred eels, and features a STASH unit for a master clue step. Another master clue step requires speaking to Sacrifice, and a hard clue step requires speaking to Zul-Cheray.

Sacred eels, tainted after having consumed the scales Zulrah has shed, can be caught from the waters of Zul-Andra by players with a fishing level of 87 or higher. Sacred eels are caught using a fishing rod and bait.

Trivia

  • According to Mod Ash during the 6th birthday stream, the humans of Zul-Andra were named after various members of the Old School Team. For example, Zul-Onan was named after Mod Ronan. For the gnomes, words from the Ancient Gnomish language were used (which can be seen via the translation book). Zul-Andra itself translates to Zul City in Ancient Gnomish.[1]
  • Due to the amount of artist work taken up by the 2014 Christmas event and Mod Ghost's subsequent illness prior to the release of Zulrah, the environment had to be created by Mod Ash, who did so re-using from Burgh de Rott and combining existing NPC models to make the inhabitants.[2]
