Raw karambwan are octopodes native to the tropical island of Karamja. Catching one requires 65 Fishing and a karambwan vessel using raw karambwanji as bait after completing the fishing portion of the Tai Bwo Wannai Trio quest. Each catch yields 50 Fishing experience. The karambwan fishing spots are north of the Karamja Shipyard and east of the harpie bug swarms at fairy ring code DKP, or alternatively fished at sea while on a raft.

To be able to cook a karambwan thoroughly, players must speak to Tinsay in his hut after completing the Tai Bwo Wannai Trio quest. When using a raw karambwan on a fire or cooking range, two options of cooking are given: poorly or thoroughly. Cooking poorly requires 1 Cooking, but yields a poison karambwan and 80 Cooking experience. Cooking poison karambwans is typically the fastest way to level Cooking from level 1, as Karambwans can be cooked faster than other food. Cooking thoroughly requires 30 Cooking yielding a cooked karambwan and 190 Cooking experience. Karambwan stop burning at 99 Cooking, 93 Cooking at the Hosidius Kitchen, or 86 Cooking at the Hosidius Kitchen after completing the elite Kourend & Kebos Diary.

Catching a karambwan is a medium Karamja Diary task, while cooking a karambwan thoroughly is a hard Karamja Diary task.

• When catching karambwans, it is highly recommend to unlock fairy rings by completing Fairytale I - Growing Pains and partially completing Fairytale II - Cure a Queen, as the fishing spots are located right next to ring DKP. This allows you to use the fairy ring to teleport to a bank and back.
  • The closest fairy ring to a bank is DJR near the Shayzien bank chest.
  • An alternative is to use the ring to go to Zanaris to bank, as this will allow you to continue to use the 'last destination' option to return.
  • Another alternative is to use a ring of dueling to bank at Castle Wars, then teleporting to a location near a fairy ring to return to Karamja. Two common options are the Ardougne cloak and Teleport to House when you have built a fairy ring there (requires 85 Construction).
  • Yet another alternative is to use sailors' amulet to bank deposit at Port Roberts (requires 50 Sailing) or Deepfin Point (requires 67 Sailing) then teleporting to a location near a fairy ring. This amulet consumes 90% less law runes per teleport.
  • The fastest method is to use Crafting cape (or slightly slower Karamja gloves 3 or 4 to the Shilo Village mine) to the bank deposit chest, then the quest point cape for quickest access to a fairy ring. This requires the completion of all quests and 99 Crafting (or the completion of the hard Karamja Diary).

Instead of catching them, they may also be purchased from Tiadeche's Karambwan Stall, which has a fast restock rate. Cooking karambwan by buying them is a popular Cooking method for Ultimate ironman players.

Alternatively, they can be fished at sea while on a raft to benefit of boat's cargo hold for longer trips.

Unlike regular Fishing, bait is consumed even without a catch. When this occurs, a filtered game message will state A Karambwan deftly snatches the Karambwanji from your vessel! Since this occurs on each failed catch attempt, the rate of occurrence is the inverse of the fishing chance graph below.
