Gleason's Gielinor Guide

A bar is a metal ingot used in the Smithing skill that has been refined from ore. Ore can be mined from rocks found in various mines around Gielinor and then smelted into bars, either at a furnace or using the Superheat Item spell. Next, these bars can be smithed into various items at an anvil, including weapons and armour.

Bars can also be dropped by monsters such as metal dragons, which drop bars of their respective metals as remains.

In making bars, many ores must be smelted along with coal (e.g., runite ore), while others can be smelted by themselves (e.g., gold ore). The Blast Furnace is useful for creating bars in bulk, as it uses only half the coal compared to a regular furnace. Using smithing catalyst at a furnace also halves the amount of coal required.

Some quests require the player to make special bars under unique conditions, like the elemental bar and the 'perfect' gold bar.

^ Iron only has a 50% chance of success. Using a Ring of forging or the Blast Furnace will bypass this, giving players a 100% chance of refining iron.

^ Wearing goldsmith gauntlets or a Smithing cape increases the experience gained from smelting gold bars.
