Crafting is a family of production systems rather than one loop: leather, jewellery, glass, pottery, gems, battlestaves, and dragonhide all use different inputs.

Crafting
Treat Crafting as an account-unlock skill: jewellery, battlestaves, glass, and hides all have a place.
Set milestone targets around jewellery, quest, and cape teleports rather than arbitrary round levels.
UNDERSTANDING CRAFTING
Learn the system before you optimise the loop.
Crafting is a artisan skill with several viable routes. The best method is not automatically the one with the largest experience-rate number: startup time, travel, real input prices, useful outputs, and the amount of attention you can sustain all belong in the decision.
This guide treats levels as unlocks rather than a single uninterrupted race to 99. Use the route below as a strong default, then switch when a quest, diary, equipment upgrade, or account goal makes another method more valuable to you.
The output often has a high-alch floor but limited GE demand. Processing profit must include sale tax, nature runes if alching, and fill time.
Temporary boosts can reach jewellery, master-clue, and quest requirements before the permanent level.
Bank layout and one-click quantities materially affect high-volume methods such as glassblowing and dragonhide bodies.

Levels 1–20: Leather items
From level 1 to 20, craft the highest-level leather item available. Leather currently costs 181 each and all items only require one leather to craft. In order to craft any leather items, you need a needle and some thread. Since each thread is good for around 5 uses, to get to level 20 with this method, you will need around 50 thread.
This will require a total of 215 leather, for a total cost of 38,915. Every leather item is created in 3 ticks (1.8 seconds), so the total creation time for all 215 leather items is 645 ticks (387 seconds).

Levels 1–83/99: Molten glass
Blowing molten glass with a glassblowing pipe offers very slow experience rates, but it requires little attention and a low amount of capital. Most low-level items are not viable due to high cost, but certain higher-level ones, such as unpowered orbs, may be very cheap depending on the prices. Consider making money through other means and training with faster methods, such as cutting low-level gems.

Introduction
Crafting training methods usually cost money and require a lot of capital to buy the supplies needed. Prices of materials will fluctuate, so check the Grand Exchange prices before buying and selling them in large quantities.

Starting off
There are plenty of quests that give Crafting experience upon completion, which allows the player to skip a lot of early Crafting training. If the player is going to complete them anyway, it is best to do as early as possible since the experience rewards benefit more at lower levels as the training methods are slower.

FOUR EDITORIAL STARTING POINTS
Shortlisted routes with executable instructions.
Use the finder above for the complete method library. These four routes are the fan-guide shortlist: each includes its setup, repeatable sequence, realistic rate band, and most important failure point.
46–99 • LOW ATTENTION
Glassblowing
Sustainable mains and irons
Low to moderate cost
Any bank
Molten glass, glassblowing pipe, product level
Pipe plus 27 molten glass
- Choose the highest sensible glass product for the account or market.
- Blow full inventories automatically and bank with minimal movement.
- For irons, calculate sand and seaweed sourcing time separately from processing.
20–99 • MEDIUM ATTENTION
Cutting gems
Buying fast bank XP
Often high loss
Any bank
Chisel and uncut gems
Chisel plus 27 uncut gems
- Use the source-backed table to compare XP each and live loss.
- Cut full inventories and sell a test batch of finished gems.
- Limit exposure when gem prices move or finished volume is shallow.
63–99 • MEDIUM ATTENTION
Dragonhide bodies
Fast conventional Crafting
High material loss; alch floor
Any bank
Needle, thread, three hides per body, tier level
Needle, thread, dragon leather
- Convert hides to leather or buy leather after pricing both routes.
- Make bodies because three-hide actions reduce clicks per XP.
- Sell or alch outputs only after including nature runes and time.
54–99 • MEDIUM ATTENTION
Battlestaves
Crafting plus Magic follow-up
Spread-dependent with alch option
Any bank
Charged orbs and battlestaves
Equal orb and battlestaff stacks
- Price orb, staff, finished staff, and high-alch route separately.
- Combine roughly 2,450 per hour with efficient banking.
- Use the site's alch desk before deciding whether to sell or alch.
CRAFTING CALCULATOR
Turn a level goal into hours and materials.
Select a method for its realistic experience-rate band. Add XP and GP per action when you want an exact resource estimate for your chosen item.
The level formula is exact. Time and budget are planning estimates: your equipment, banking, failures, attention, and live Grand Exchange prices determine the real result.
SETUP PROGRESSION
Upgrade the part that actually controls the rate.
| Stage | Setup | Priority |
|---|---|---|
| Glass | Glassblowing pipe and molten glass | Product choice affects use and XP, not action speed alone. |
| Gems | Chisel and live price table | Buy a small batch before scaling. |
| Leather | Needle, thread, processed hides | Bodies reduce actions per experience. |
| Battlestaves | Orbs, staves, optional alch setup | Price the entire production and liquidation route. |
THE ROUTE
From level 1 to cape
1–40
Quest XP, leather, and silver
Small batches unlock the useful early jewellery tiers. The opening objective is access, not perfect efficiency. Use quests and inexpensive equipment to compress levels where possible, and avoid over-investing in a method you will outgrow quickly.40–63
Glass or battlestaves
Glass suits self-sufficient accounts; battlestaves are faster with market exposure. This is where the skill settles into a repeatable loop. Upgrade the parts of the setup that affect every action, measure a representative session, and keep travel or banking from becoming the hidden bottleneck.63–84
Green and blue dragonhide bodies
Reliable bankstanding XP; calculate the live loss before buying. At the mid-game checkpoint, compare the fastest route with account progress, useful outputs, and attention. A slightly slower method can be more efficient overall when it also supplies quests, diaries, or another skill.84–99
Higher hides or glass
Spend for speed or process gathered materials for a lower cash cost.Late-game training is a sustainability problem. Recheck prices and unlocks, alternate high-focus sessions with calmer ones, and choose a route you can repeat without turning the cape into a chore.Cutting gems is fast and simple, but price swings can make it unexpectedly expensive.
LEVEL REFERENCE
Milestones worth planning around
These are decision points, not instructions to stop. Boostable requirements and quest gates can change when an unlock becomes usable.
| Level | Unlock | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| 20 | Sapphire jewellery range | Early teleports and utility begin to open. |
| 40 | Ruby jewellery range | Includes useful combat and teleport items. |
| 55 | Dragonstone ring | Starts high-level enchanted teleport jewellery. |
| 63 | Green dragonhide bodies | A common fast bankstanding method. |
| 84 | Black dragonhide bodies | The high-tier traditional hide method. |
| 99 | Crafting cape teleport | One of the closest repeatable bank teleports. |
QUEST ROUTING
Let account progress do part of the grind.
Quest experience is most valuable when it skips slow early methods or opens a training system you will keep using.
Goblin Diplomacy
A simple early Crafting reward.
Elemental Workshop series
Provides Crafting and Smithing experience alongside unique equipment.
Lunar Diplomacy
Unlocks Lunar spells that support large-scale glass production.
CHOOSE YOUR ACCOUNT
The route changes with the rules you play by.
Spend for the time you value
Mains should price complete routes, not single actions. Dragonhide bodies buy speed, glass offers steady experience with different sourcing, and battlestaves can connect daily rewards to alchemy.
Optimise the whole supply chain
Glassblowing is central because sand and seaweed are renewable. Gems, hides, silver, and battlestaves remain useful side routes when the account naturally produces them.
Know the edge of the map
Free-to-play Crafting includes leather, pottery, silver, gold jewellery, and gems but lacks the strongest training loops and utility unlocks. Banking friction is a larger share of the rate.
REVISION-PINNED REFERENCE

COMMON QUESTIONS
Crafting FAQ
What is the cheapest route?
It changes with inputs and whether outputs can be sold or alched. Glass is a common low-cost members route; exact economics must be priced at the time.
Why is 99 Crafting so popular?
Beyond the achievement, the cape provides an exceptionally convenient teleport close to a bank chest.
Game updates can change rates, requirements, and best methods. Check the community reference before a large purchase.
