Fletching

A flexible bank skill: make useful ammunition cheaply or spend for rapid levels.

QUICK WIN

Many fletching actions fit between laps, quests, and travel, turning dead time into XP.

UNDERSTANDING FLETCHING

Learn the system before you optimise the loop.

Fletching is a artisan skill with several viable routes. The best method is not automatically the one with the largest experience-rate number: startup time, travel, real input prices, useful outputs, and the amount of attention you can sustain all belong in the decision.

This guide treats levels as unlocks rather than a single uninterrupted race to 99. Use the route below as a strong default, then switch when a quest, diary, equipment upgrade, or account goal makes another method more valuable to you.

01

Fletching has two broad stages: shaping logs into bows or shafts, then combining unfinished products with strings, tips, or feathers.

02

Many actions can be performed while moving or between other activities. This makes nominal XP per hour less important than where the actions fit.

03

Fast ammunition methods can consume extremely large quantities per hour, so GE buy limits and capital are real constraints.

04

Finished products may sell slowly or below the displayed guide price. Test the actual exit before processing thousands.

Level 1–5: Headless arrows

1 detailed notes

A profitable way of training Fletching is to fletch headless arrows using arrow shafts and feathers. This grants 15 experience per action, for 1 experience per headless arrow fletched.

Early levels can be skipped by completing quests that give Fletching experience. Completing Animal Magnetism, Big Chompy Bird Hunting and Zogre Flesh Eaters will grant a total of 3,262 Fletching experience, which will get the player up to level 18. These quests have few requirements and can be done at a low level. Completing Temple of Ikov and The Fremennik Trials will grant an additional 10,812 Fletching experience, which will get the player up to level 30.

FOUR EDITORIAL STARTING POINTS

Shortlisted routes with executable instructions.

Use the finder above for the complete method library. These four routes are the fan-guide shortlist: each includes its setup, repeatable sequence, realistic rate band, and most important failure point.

01

5–99LOW ATTENTION

Unstrung bows

20k–190k XP/hr
BEST FOR

Low-attention bank training

ECONOMY

Often cheap or profitable

LOCATION

Any bank

REQUIREMENTS

Knife and the log for the chosen bow tier

INVENTORY / LOADOUT

Knife plus 27 logs; fletching knife if unlocked

EXECUTION
  1. Select the highest sensible bow tier after checking log and output prices.
  2. Fletch full inventories automatically and use a compact bank layout.
  3. Sell a test stack because unstrung bow volumes can be shallow.
02

10–99MEDIUM ATTENTION

Stringing bows

55k–240k XP/hr
BEST FOR

Faster traditional bow XP

ECONOMY

Spread-dependent

LOCATION

Any bank

REQUIREMENTS

Unstrung bows and bow strings

INVENTORY / LOADOUT

14 bows and 14 strings, or spool-supported layout

EXECUTION
  1. Price the unstrung bow, string, and finished bow as one conversion.
  2. Combine equal stacks using the make-all interface.
  3. Consider alch value only if you will actually spend time and nature runes alching.
03

10–99HIGH ATTENTION

Darts or fast ammunition

400k–1.5m+ XP/hr
BEST FOR

Buying time

ECONOMY

High to extreme loss

LOCATION

Any activity that permits the action

REQUIREMENTS

Dart tips and feathers; tier level

INVENTORY / LOADOUT

Equal dart tips and feathers

EXECUTION
  1. Calculate the total required quantity from XP per set before buying.
  2. Combine components in controlled bursts while doing compatible movement or bank activities.
  3. Stop if hand fatigue or input errors make the method unsustainable.
04

VariableHIGH ATTENTION

Vale Totems

Route-dependent hybrid XP
BEST FOR

Active mixed gameplay

ECONOMY

Uses logs and strings

LOCATION

Vale totem routes

REQUIREMENTS

Relevant totem and area unlocks

INVENTORY / LOADOUT

Logs, knife/fletching knife, optional bow string spool

EXECUTION
  1. Choose a loop and carry only the materials used before the first totem.
  2. Fletch while moving without delaying the route's primary interactions.
  3. Compare total Fletching plus activity rewards rather than isolated XP.

FLETCHING CALCULATOR

Turn a level goal into hours and materials.

Select a method for its realistic experience-rate band. Add XP and GP per action when you want an exact resource estimate for your chosen item.

XP REMAINING13,034,43113,034,431 total XP at level 99

ESTIMATED BUDGETAdd GP eachGross inputs; resale and tax are not deducted

The level formula is exact. Time and budget are planning estimates: your equipment, banking, failures, attention, and live Grand Exchange prices determine the real result.

SETUP PROGRESSION

Upgrade the part that actually controls the rate.

StageSetupPriority
BowsKnife or fletching knife, logsThe special knife reduces bow-shaping time.
StringingBow string spool where unlockedMore products per inventory slightly reduces banking.

THE ROUTE

From level 1 to cape

1

1–35

Arrow shafts and early bows

Work through normal and oak products with small batches. The opening objective is access, not perfect efficiency. Use quests and inexpensive equipment to compress levels where possible, and avoid over-investing in a method you will outgrow quickly.
2

35–65

Willow and maple bows

Unstrung bows are simple; stringing adds cost and actions. This is where the skill settles into a repeatable loop. Upgrade the parts of the setup that affect every action, measure a representative session, and keep travel or banking from becoming the hidden bottleneck.
3

65–80

Yew products or darts

Compare the speed premium before choosing a large buy.At the mid-game checkpoint, compare the fastest route with account progress, useful outputs, and attention. A slightly slower method can be more efficient overall when it also supplies quests, diaries, or another skill.
4

80–99

Magic bows or fast ammunition

Longbows are steadier; high-tier darts can be very fast and expensive.Late-game training is a sustainability problem. Recheck prices and unlocks, alternate high-focus sessions with calmer ones, and choose a route you can repeat without turning the cape into a chore.
LOWER-INTENSITY ALTERNATIVE

Broad arrows are popular on restricted accounts and can be made during other activities.

LEVEL REFERENCE

Milestones worth planning around

These are decision points, not instructions to stop. Boostable requirements and quest gates can change when an unlock becomes usable.

LevelUnlockWhy it matters
10LongbowsBegins the repeated shortbow/longbow progression.
25Oak longbowsA common early bank method.
40Willow longbowsCheap, accessible members training.
55Maple longbowsA bridge toward profitable alch products.
70Yew longbowsHigh-alch demand supports the output market.
85Magic longbowsThe high-level traditional bow product.

QUEST ROUTING

Let account progress do part of the grind.

Quest experience is most valuable when it skips slow early methods or opens a training system you will keep using.

QUEST 1

Temple of Ikov

Requires and uses Fletching-related equipment while opening a broader quest line.

QUEST 2

The Tourist Trap

Its selectable experience rewards can accelerate early Fletching on some routes.

QUEST 3

Devious Minds

A high-requirement quest that includes a Fletching checkpoint.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Fletching FAQ

Why fletch while doing another skill?

Several Fletching actions do not stop movement and fit between laps or travel. The combined session can outperform treating every skill as a separate bank grind.

Are darts worth the cost?

They buy speed and flexibility. Calculate total loss for the target level and verify that the required quantity can be purchased within limits.
