Superior Slayer monsters, or simply Superiors, are more powerful versions of normal Slayer monsters. They can only be encountered after purchasing the Bigger and Badder unlock for 50 Slayer reward points from any Slayer master.
Superior monsters have a base spawn chance of 1/200 upon the death of their regular counterpart, and may only spawn if the player is on a Slayer task for the slain monster.[1]
Overview
Killing a superior Slayer monster rewards the player with a generous amount of Slayer experience - generally about ten times the hitpoints of the superior monster. Slayer experience will still be granted for a superior monster that is slain after the completion of the corresponding Slayer task.
Most superiors are passive towards the player, even in the Wilderness, unless the player is under the effects of a goading potion. This excludes the basilisk sentinel and dreadborn araxyte, which are always aggressive. A superior monster will despawn in two minutes if the player stays in the vicinity and does not attack it, or less than 30 seconds if they leave the area.[2] Should the player die while fighting it or teleport away, the monster will despawn soon after.

After purchasing it, players may toggle the Bigger and Badder unlock on and off without loss of points to disable superior Slayer monsters at any time, although there generally isn't any benefit to this.
Spawn mechanics
There's a 1/200 chance that a superior spawns upon the death of one of its normal counterparts,[3] as long as Bigger and Badder is enabled and the player slew the monster on a corresponding Slayer task. After claiming the elite tier rewards from the Combat Achievements system, the chances of a superior Slayer monster appearing is increased to 1/150. There is an additional 10% chance of a superior Slayer monster appearing in Wilderness, increasing the base spawn rate to 1/180, or 1/135 with completion of the elite CA tier.[4] This benefit applies when on tasks from any slayer master.
When a superior Slayer monster spawns, a message will appear in the chatbox, stating A superior foe has appeared... Players cannot attack superior monsters which have been spawned by other players - attempting to do so produces the message That is not your superior creature.
In situations where multiple players have attacked the same creature, a superior can spawn for any player that has received partial kill credit, meaning they either dealt the most damage or dealt the last hit.[5] If the superior creature is larger in size than its regular counterpart, the game will first check if it can spawn on the south-western tile of the dying creature, while remaining unblocked by scenery; then on the tile where the creature was due to respawn; and finally a tile in the vicinity of the player if they are still within the area.[6]
Once a superior has appeared, another one will not spawn for that player until it is killed or despawns. In single-way combat areas, a superior Slayer monster can be attacked even if the player is under attack by another monster; when this happens, the standard monster will stop attacking the player. In multicombat areas, it is possible, though very rare, for multiple superior Slayer monsters to appear simultaneously if eligible monsters die on the same tick.
Superiors can appear even on the last kill of a Slayer task, and can still be attacked by the player who spawned it after completion of the task. They still may even drop special loot associated with the Slayer task, such as a Larran's key in the Wilderness or a Brimstone key on task from Konar quo Maten. Superiors can still be attacked after completing a task even if the location itself would otherwise stop the player from doing so, such as the basement of the Slayer Tower.
It is not possible for a superior Slayer monster to spawn from a reanimated monster.[7]
Drops
Superior Slayer monsters kills give three rolls on their lesser counterpart's drop table. Alongside this, they have other guaranteed drops:
- An ensouled head (if applicable)
- Larran's key (in the Wilderness Slayer Cave)
- A Brimstone key (if assigned by Konar quo Maten)
- Wilderness tertiary drops (in the Wilderness Slayer Cave)
- A dark totem piece (in the Catacombs of Kourend)
- 6-10 crystal shards (in the Iorwerth Dungeon)
Players are also ten times more likely to receive a clue scroll from killing one. In addition, superior Slayer monsters have four unique drops shared among all superior Slayer monsters:
- Imbued heart, which can boost the player's Magic level by 1 + 10% of your Magic level every seven minutes.
- Dust battlestaff, which when equipped provides an infinite amount of air and earth runes.
- Mist battlestaff, which when equipped provides an infinite amount of air and water runes.
- Eternal gem, which can be crafted into a Slayer ring (eternal).
Unique Drop tables
There are two different unique drop tables for superior Slayer monsters:
| Item | Quantity | Rarity | Price | High Alch | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dust battlestaff | 1 | 7/16 | 9,302 | 9,300 | |
| Mist battlestaff | 1 | 7/16 | 34,693 | 9,300 | |
| Imbued heart | 1 | 1/8 | 70,735,510 | 300,000 |
| Item | Quantity | Rarity | Price | High Alch | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nothing | N/A | 7/8 | N/A | N/A | |
| Eternal gem | 1 | 1/8 | 9,233,498 | 5,700 |
Players having an equal chance of hitting either Unique Drop Table. For odds of hitting each UDT per superior monster version, see below.
Drop rate
The chance of rolling a specific one of the two unique drop tables (UDT) is 1200−(SlayerReq+55)2125
The first UDT contains the imbued heart, dust battlestaff and mist battlestaff. The second UDT contains only the eternal gem.
If the players rolls the first unique drop table, there is then a 1/8 chance of receiving an imbued heart, and a 7/16 chance each of receiving one of the battlestaves.[8] If the player rolls the second unique drop table, there is a 1/8 chance of receiving an eternal gem, and a 7/8 chance of receiving nothing. [9]
Thus, the formula of receiving any unique drop is 98*(200−(SlayerReq+55)2125)
The formula of receiving an imbued heart or eternal gem is 18*(200−(SlayerReq+55)2125)
And the formula of receiving a dust or mist battlestaff is 716*(200−(SlayerReq+55)2125)
When killing superiors from Mortimer that have a drop rate increase, the increase varies from intervals of 10%-25%. 30%-60%, 50%-100%, 100%-150% or 200%-300% depending on the slayer monster in question. Refer to his page for the specific monsters.

Trivia
- While the revenant maledictus is referred to as a superior revenant, it is not a Slayer monster.
- With the exception of cave horrors, dark beasts, and dust devils, all Slayer monsters that have a superior version are either monsters that can be found in the Slayer Tower or Fremennik Slayer Dungeon, or monsters that were added to Old School RuneScape after the initial introduction of superior Slayer monsters.
- Historically, superior creatures that are larger than their normal counterparts could only spawn if the death of the normal monster occurred in a location that can fit the superior creature.[10] In order to appear, a superior creature had to be able to fit either its centre tile or one of its corner tiles on the south-western tile of the dying creature, while remaining unobstructed by scenery objects elsewhere.[11][12] The update on 16 October 2024 changed this to move the superior creature to a valid location to prevent the player from missing spawns.

I should clarify the 30 secs thing - I mean that it checks every 30 secs, so if you departed shortly before that tick occurs, the creature would despawn much sooner. It's a bit like farming ticks."
