Golem crafting is a Crafting training method located on the island of Wyrmscraig that players learn to do upon completion of Fallen From Grace. As such, the activity itself requires level 60 Crafting to do.

Within the activity, players help the people of Auchrie by crafting, powering, and clothing golems made from sunstone, a resource unique to Wyrmscraig.

Gameplay

The basic gameplay loop for golem crafting (assuming the player has sourced the required hunter furs) is as follows:

  • Mine an inventory of sunstone. Mining individual sunstone rocks allows players to take advantage of the momentum mechanic, increasing mining success chance and giving a chance for a second sunstone when moving to a new rock within 5 ticks. Meanwhile, mining the sunstone monolith provides an AFK option for slower mining and lower experience gains.
  • Begin the crafting process by clicking an empty plinth. This requires a chisel, a hammer, and four sunstones per golem.
  • Shape the golem by carving it from each side (north, east, west, and south), turning an unfinished golem into an unpowered golem once all 4 sides are finished. This will take 20 ticks (12s) per side, taking 80 ticks (48s) overall, plus movement time. Sides that have already been carved will have rocky debris on the ground tile next to the plinith, so there is no need to worry about forgetting which sides have been carved already.
    • If players click on the tick the experience drop is given whilst shaping the golem, the next shaping action is sped up from 4 ticks (2.4s) to 3 ticks (1.8s) resulting in 15 ticks (9s) per side and 60 ticks (36s) total excluding movement. Spam clicking will also work.
  • Complete the golem by inserting a sunstone core (created by using a chisel on a sunstone) together with a piece of fur, awarding Crafting experience and an uncut gemstone.
    • The higher quality the fur is, the more Crafting experience is given. Lower-tier furs (including ones found on the island) will work, but rarer furs from across the wider game will give better experience rates. Furs can be used directly from within a fur pouch.
A player with expert mining gloves taking advantage of the momentum mechanic to get an immediate roll for sunstone without depleting the rock.

Experience rates

When using the high-intensity approach, with a high Mining level, mining enhancers, speeding up shaping actions, and access to the best furs, it is possible to get upwards of 185,000 experience per hour.

Using the lower intensity approach, one should expect 100,000 Crafting experience per hour, and 28,000 Hunter experience per hour (assuming that the furs are obtained by hunting goats found on the island).

Only the furs listed below are usable for golem crafting, and tatty variants will not work.

  3. ^ 65-70+ golems are possible with high efficiency

Strategy

Players with access to the Grand Exchange should purchase furs based on the experience rates and costs shown in the table above. Ironman accounts will have to collect furs themselves; dark kebbit fur is recommended due to the higher catch rate and faster collection rate of dark kebbits. Alternatively, dashing kebbit fur offers a higher experience rate, while also allowing you to collect raw dashing kebbit, offering 3 charges for your quetzal whistle. Focusing on the dashing kebbit has the happy byproduct of getting you quicker access to the perfected quetzal whistle(i) which offers unlimited teleports.

To reduce banking trips, players can combine mining sunstones with golem crafting. The following equipment is recommended:

  • Rune pickaxe if actively mining to take advantage of the momentum mechanic, otherwise the best available pickaxe
    • Momentum seems to fail frequently when using higher-tier pickaxes, even when playing perfectly.
  • Imcando hammer (off-hand) (off-hand mode so it can be equipped next to pickaxe)
  • Expert mining gloves (allows for easier sunstone collection)
  • Varrock armour 2 or better
  • (Optional) Prospector outfit for some slightly increased Mining experience

In the inventory, carry the following items:

  • Large fur pouch filled with at least 25 furs
  • Empty gem bag to collect gems received for completing golems, as well as gems collected while mining
  • A chisel
  • 25 open inventory slots

A rotation of golem crafting, resulting in 5 completed golems looks as follows:

  1. Mine 25 sunstone
  2. Chisel 5 sunstones into sunstone cores, leaving 20 sunstones
  3. Create 5 golems, collecting the gems in a gem bag
  4. Return to the mine for a new inventory of 25 sunstones and repeat

To optimise the mining portion, take advantage of the momentum mechanic by mining sunstone rocks in quick succession, switching to a new set of rocks immediately after the previous one depletes. This gives a higher chance to receive a sunstone (up to 100% at level 92 Mining) and gives an additional 20% chance to mine an extra sunstone.

With a large fur pouch, players can complete five rotations before needing to bank to refill furs and empty the gem bag. Alternatively, players can mine sunstones in advance and complete golem crafting separately. Mining from the monolith increases the amount of time between interactions, but reduces the overall sunstone collection rate.

If players click on the tick the experience drop is given whilst shaping the golem, the next shaping action is sped up from 4 ticks (2.4s) to 3 ticks (1.8s) resulting in 15 ticks (9s) per side and 60 ticks (36s) total excluding movement. Spam clicking will also work. It is suggested to start at the east or west side of the golem and save the northern side for last, as this way a player can chisel and insert the sunstone on the same tile to avoid excess movement.
