Clay rocks are Mining rocks that can be mined at level 1 Mining to produce 1 clay and 5 Mining experience. When a bracelet of clay is equipped, the rocks produce soft clay instead. Clay can be used with water to make soft clay, which is in turn used to train Crafting and Construction, or to make magic tablets.
Clay is not recommended to train Mining, as copper and tin rocks give more experience. However, clay is sometimes used as a money making method for free-to-play players, yielding 79 each rock, or 2,212 per inventory, with each inventory taking roughly one minute to fill.

The mining gem drop table has a 1/256 chance to roll on every mining attempt;[1] if the player is wearing a charged amulet of glory, amulet of glory (t), or amulet of eternal glory, the probability increases to 1/64.2.[2][3] If the table successfully rolls, the player may receive an uncut gem or nothing, and in either case can not receive an ore.[4] This neither depletes the rock nor grants Mining experience. The rates shown are for every mining attempt.

Equipment
Bracelet of clay allows 28 soft clay to be mined before it breaks.
Varrock armour 1, 2, 3, and and 4 give a 10% chance to receive an extra clay.
Mining gloves and their variants provide no benefits.
Celestial rings and signets provide an invisible +4 boost to Mining level, regardless of charges. When charged with stardust, they also give a 10% chance to receive an extra clay.
Prospector kit boosts Mining experience by 2.5%.
Amulet of glory increases the chance of obtaining gems when charged.
Mining capes give a 5% chance to receive an extra clay.- Varrock armour, celestial rings, and Mining capes roll independently; multiple bonus resources can be given.
Trivia
- Clay is the fastest respawning rock at 1.2 seconds (2 game ticks).
