Arianwyn

Arianwyn Cadarn (pronounced ah-ree-ann-win cah-darn) is the leader of the rebel elves. He is first encountered during the Regicide quest, after which he relocates to the easternmost building in Lletya. Players must have started Mourning's End Part I to enter Lletya and talk to him a second time.

He features mainly in Song of the Elves and Parts I and II of Mourning's End. After completion of Song of the Elves, Arianwyn (referred to in the interface as Elven Traitor) can be fought in the Nightmare Zone minigame.

Arianwyn is one of three bosses in Song of the Elves. He cycles through three ranged attacks:

• A green arrow is a regular attack that can be negated with Protect from Missiles.
• The orange arrow is a high-damage explosive attack that hits through prayer, causing up to 50+ damage. It is a slow-moving projectile and is avoided by moving at least one tile away.
• The purple arrow disables active prayers but does not cause damage.

Note: He is immune to ice spells, Bind, Snare, and Entangle.

Arianwyn was born during the late Fourth Age in the once-thriving eastern elven kingdom.^[1] When he was a child, his parents (Gollwyn being his father) joined King Baxtorian in the campaign to retake Prifddinas from Lord Iorwerth. They perished in the battle, however, and he was left alone.^[2] Eventually, he arrived in Isafdar and became the leader of the resistance.

In Song of the Elves, Arianwyn rescues the player and Elena from the Iorwerth Camp. Iorwerth reveals to him that his loyalty has always been to Seren, contrary to what the rebel elves had long believed. Arianwyn denies this at first, but when the player (having the knowledge of Seren) confirms Iorwerth's claims are true, he grows dismayed and sides with the Iorwerth clan. He discloses the location of Lletya and the secret tunnel into the Temple of Light; as a result, the clan invades the village and reclaims the orb of light. Just as the fragment of Seren is freed, Arianwyn realises his mistakes and shoots Iorwerth, fatally wounding him. He helps rebuild Lletya and sees Prifddinas for the first time, then departs in self-exile, hoping to find redemption and forgiveness elsewhere in the world. He disappears from the game after completing the quest.

• Arianwyn is a Welsh name, coming from the words arian ('silver' or 'money') and gwyn ('white, blessed'). Cadarn comes from a Welsh word meaning 'strong'.
• If players attempt to talk to him after completing the quests, they'll receive the "Nothing interesting happens." message.
