The Phoenix crossbow is a quest item, although it can be traded. It has the same stats as a regular crossbow except for attack range, but weighs significantly less. It can be obtained and is used in the quest Shield of Arrav. The Phoenix crossbow has no requirements to wield, and can only fire bronze bolts. It can also be used with a mith grapple for Agility shortcuts.
The Phoenix crossbow is not often used, as the bronze crossbow requires the same Ranged level to equip, but gives a Ranged accuracy of +18, whilst the Phoenix crossbow only gives +6. However, the Phoenix crossbow is essentially free, and since bronze crossbows and above are members-only items, the Phoenix crossbow is the second-best crossbow available to free-to-play players. While the Phoenix crossbow is lighter than and has the same +6 range bonus as the standard crossbow, the Phoenix crossbow has a maximum range of 7 tiles, whereas the standard crossbow has a range of 10 tiles.
