Holy water is a consumable Ranged weapon that is used just like throwing knives and darts; however, it will only deal damage against demons. Throwing holy water will cause the vial to break, dropping smashed glass on the floor. As a demonbane weapon, it has an attribute affinity for demons; the item's max hit is increased by 60% in a similar fashion to that of Silverlight. On top of that, it gains an additional +5 damage bonus if the demon is Nezikchened. Upon a successful hit, it will drain the opponent's Defence level by 5%, provided it is a demon.[1] Multiple holy water hits will not stack their Defence reduction.

The ability to make holy water requires progressing far enough into Legends' Quest. It is started by taking a gold bowl to Gujuo and asking him to bless it. The blessed gold bowl can then be filled with water from the Kharazi pool (via a hollow reed, cut from the tall reed plants by the pool with a machete) and then decanted into enchanted vials to make holy water. One bowl will fill 10 enchanted vials. It is also possible to enchant the vials and siphon the sparkling water directly from the pool into the vials, but this is slower, since only one vial is filled per reed.

During Legends' Quest, holy water can be used to soak Ungadulu, which will result in Nezikchened being weakened in the first battle with him.

Although it is a demonbane weapon, it cannot be used to one-shot the respiratory systems in the Abyssal Sire fight.

Mechanics

Holy water uses a different form of damage calculation compared to how regular maximum Ranged hits are determined, which ignores some factors that normally serve to increase Ranged damage.[2] For instance, while boosting one's visible Ranged level will result in an increased maximum hit when using holy water, the use of stat-boosting prayers such as Eagle Eye or Rigour will not, nor does the set effect of Void ranger armour apply to holy water.[3]

The following formula can be used to calculate the max hit of Holy water :

Maximum Hit=⌊⌊0.5+Visible Ranged Level+10*(Ammo Ranged Strength+64)640⌋*1.6 (If fighting a demon) ⌋+5 (If fighting Nezikchened)  [a] [b] [c] [d]

  1. ^ Only the player's visible ranged level matters. Boosts given through prayers and Void Knight armour are ignored.
  2. ^ A stance bonus of 10 is used regardless of attack style used.
  3. ^ The ranged strength bonus of the player's armour and gear is ignored. Only the ranged strength bonus of the player's ammo is used. In the case of Holy water, the weapon's ranged strength is used instead.
  4. ^ The bonus damage usually provided by wearing a Slayer helmet (i), Salve amulet (i) or Salve amulet (ei) is ignored.

Steps
1. Use a binding book to enchant one or more empty vials.[a]
2. Hammer two gold bars into a gold bowl at an anvil.[b]
3. Summon Gujuo by swinging the bullroarer in the Kharazi Jungle.
4. Let Gujuo turn the gold bowl into a blessed gold bowl.[c]
5. Cut a hollow reed from the tall reeds with a knife.
6. Use the hollow reed on the water pool to fill the bowl.
7. Decant the golden bowl into an enchanted vial.[d]
  1. ^ Drains 5 levels of Magic and Prayer.
  2. ^ Requires the sketch prior to completion of Legends' Quest. Failure can result in the loss of one or both bars.
  3. ^ Can drain 5 Prayer levels on failure.
  4. ^ Up to 10 enchanted vials may be filled by a single golden bowl.

Bulk production

The most effective way to make holy water in bulk is to wear a machete and the Karamja gloves 3. Then:

  • Bring 28 blessed gold bowls to the pool, drop one
  • Cut a hollow reed, fill the bowls
  • Drop a bowl, pick up the empty bowl you previously dropped
  • Fill that one, drop the reed
  • Pick up the full one, and teleport to Shilo Village with your gloves
  • Go to the Shilo Village bank, and fill the enchanted vials there.

It is important to note that if you try to leave the jungle on foot, the water will disappear from your bowls.

But what accuracy / damage bonus does the holy water ranged weapon from legends quest gain against demons?] It gets a 1.6x damage multiplier (stacked with +5 damage if the demon is Nezikchened in that quest). The accuracy bonus is more to do with how it drains the target's Defence stat by 5%."
