The Feldip Hills are a tropical and marshy area positioned to the south of Yanille and Kandarin generally. The region is dominated by a variety of ogre inhabitants, centered in their city of Gu'Tanoth. To the west of Gu'Tanoth is the ogre burial ground, Jiggig, filled with zogres and skogres. To the west of Jiggig is the Chompy Marsh and Smoke Devil Dungeon. Further to the south is the Feldip hunter area. After completing the quest Big Chompy Bird Hunting, the hunting area can be used to hunt chompy birds.

There is a southernmost section accessible to free-to-play centered around the Corsair Cove. The Myths’ Guild is found at the southwestern corner.

History

Ancient History

Little is known of the Feldip Hills prior to the Third Age.

During the God Wars, the region was a stronghold for the forces of Bandos, namely goblins and ogres. At the end of the God Wars, the Feldip Hills Civil War erupted between the goblins and ogres of the region due to the power vacuum left by the expulsion of Bandos from Geilinor.[1] The ogres attempted to wipe out the various goblin tribes, forcing the goblins into a mass exodus north into Kandarin. Following this exodus, the goblins continued to guard their southern flank against the ogres.[2] The ogre-goblin conflict concluded at an indeterminate point in the Fourth Age.

At an unknown point, the ogres established a burial ground at Jiggig and enslaved the local cave dwelling race known as Skavids.[3] The remains of the races known as Raurgs, Fayrgs, and Ourgs are present in the ogre coffins of Jiggig. Besides the ourg, General Graardor, these races were presumably driven to extinction during the God Wars.

Fifth Age

During the Runecrafting Crusades in the early Fifth Age, a group of Fremennik forces traveled into the Feldip Hills where they found and destroyed the entrance to the wrath altar. Witnessing this, a local group of nomads, known as the Sect of Uhld, destroyed the fremennik forces and established the Myths' Guild to preserve the altar.[4][5][6][7]

In current year of the Fifth Age, ogres live across the hills, dungeons, and marshes of the region and in their city of Gu'tanoth. The ogres of Gu'tanoth regularly engage in conflict with the nearby human settlement of Yanille.

Trivia

  • The name is a reference to the Mendip Hills, an area of limestone hills situated to the south of Bristol and Bath in Somerset, England. In RuneScape Classic, the Watchtower Wizard actually calls the region "the mendips".

Unfortunately, without Bandos' guidance which had held these races together for millennia, the nation had fallen into a bloody civil war, making any form of a treaty with each side useless."
  2. ^ "Eastern settlement". Old School RuneScape. "The ogres attempted to decimate all goblin tribes in the south. This started a mass exodus of the goblins, and they started to emigrate north along the coast, moving through the lands not yet settled by elves. Although the goblins were busy guarding their backs to the south and did not have the resources to start a war on two fronts, this did not stop them from raiding for supplies in the elven lands."
