Charlie the Tramp

Charlie Lyeman^[1] (or Charles E. Trampin', as he calls himself) is a tramp that tells the player about the Black Arm Gang headquarters during the Shield of Arrav quest. He is found right next to the southern entrance to Varrock, at the end of the alleyway to the Black Arm Gang's headquarters. If players choose to do so they may donate a coin or two to him.

He has a cousin named Marley, who the player seeks out as part of the quest Below Ice Mountain.

• Charlie is the solution to the medium anagram clue: ARMCHAIR THE PELT. The solution to the challenge scroll question is 0.
• Charlie is the solution to the beginner cryptic clue: Talk to Charlie the Tramp in Varrock. He'll give you one of the tasks listed below.

A beginner clue scroll will sometimes instruct the player to talk to Charlie. Once there, Charlie will assign the player a short skilling task. After completing the task, the player can return to Charlie in order to continue the Treasure Trail. Charlie will accept items sourced from anywhere, including the Grand Exchange, and items obtained prior to receiving the clue scroll, so skilling is not required, though noted items are not accepted.

When first received, Charlie the Tramp clues will say "Talk to Charlie the Tramp in Varrock." Charlie will request an item, similar to Falo the Bard, albeit Charlie will keep the item instead. These items cannot be noted.

For Ironmen who wish to source the items quickly:

• Iron ore can be bought from the Ore Seller at the Blast Furnace. There are also iron rocks in the nearby South-west Varrock mine.
• Iron daggers can be bought from the Varrock Swordshop just north of Charlie. There is also an item spawn up at Lozar's house in Lumbridge.
• Raw herring can be purchased at Frankie's Fishing Emporium in Port Piscarilius, or be caught by hand in Draynor Village.
• Raw trout can be fished with a fly fishing rod and feathers at Barbarian Village or Lumbridge river (or purchased at Rufus' Meat Emporium in Canifis or Elder Krill's Fishing Stall in The Summer Shore via fairy ring CJQ, with partial completion of Troubled Tortugans) and be cooked into Trout if needed.
• Pike similarly can be fished raw with a fishing rod and bait at lure/bait fishing spots at Barbarian Village or Lumbridge river (or purchased raw at Rufus' Meat Emporium in Canifis or Elder Krill's Fishing Stall in The Summer Shore via fairy ring CJQ, with partial completion of Troubled Tortugans) and then cooked.
• Leather bodies can be purchased from Aaron's Archery Appendages in the Ranging Guild or Thessalia's Fine Clothes north of Charlie. One also spawns nearby in a building south of Varrock East Bank.
• Leather chaps can also be purchased from Aaron's Archery Appendages or be made by the player with materials found in Lumbridge and Al Kharid.

• His name and title are references to the silent film star Charlie Chaplin and his onscreen persona, "The Tramp".
• If the player obtains Charlie's task item themselves, they will receive a message "You have completed Charlie's task, go back and give him the [required item.]"
• During Defender of Varrock, Charlie's full name and profession can be learned from the Varrock census records: "Charles Lyeman", who is unemployed.
• Charlie made an appearance in the 2024 Christmas event, during which he adopted a stray dog whom he names Duke.
