The Chaos Temple is a church in level 38 Wilderness, west of the Lava Maze. It contains a Chaos Altar where players can recharge and train their Prayer using bones on the altar (other remains such as demonic ashes do not work). Free players may visit the temple, however only members may take advantage of the altar's benefits.

Praying at the chaos altar inside is a requirement for the Easy Wilderness Diary.

The temple dates back to before the Betrayal of Zaros, where Zamorak had set up a small base here.^[1]

• Teleport via use of a burning amulet's teleport to Lava Maze entrance and run south-west (be wary of player killers)
• Teleport via Ghorrock Teleport (Level 96 Magic) on Ancient Magicks and run south
• Teleport via Cemetery Teleport (Level 71 Magic) on the Arceuus spellbook and run north
• Players who have an Obelisk in their player-owned house can use it to teleport to level 44 Wilderness and then run south
• If Hard Wilderness Diary is complete, any Obelisk can be used to teleport to level 44 Wilderness and then run south

A wine of Zamorak spawns on a table inside the hut, which can only be obtained by casting Telekinetic Grab. Players who have completed the hard Wilderness Diary will receive them in noted form. The wine respawns approximately every 20 seconds.

Players who kill the Chaos Fanatic may use the Chaos altar to recharge their Prayer as it is very close.

Due to the altar's use for Prayer training while being in multi-combat, it is frequently targeted by player killers.

There is also the Elder Chaos druid who can unnote any type of bones for a fee of 50 per bone.

Members can offer bones on the Chaos Altar in the Wilderness, granting 3.5x Prayer experience per bone, the same bonus as a gilded altar with two burners lit. However, every bone offered on the altar has a 50% chance to not be consumed, which can activate for the same bone repeatedly. Therefore, the average experience per bone is 2x the amount from a player-owned house gilded altar with both incense burners lit, or 7x the normal burying experience. When this effect activates and a bone is saved, the message The Dark Lord spares your sacrifice but still rewards you for your efforts. is displayed. It is recommended to buy extra bones to mitigate any bad luck with offerings. Players who buy 53% of the bones that they would need at a gilded altar with two burners lit have a ~97% chance to reach their goal.

The 5% Prayer experience bonus of the Zealot's robes stacks multiplicatively with the Chaos altar's bonus, yielding a 52.5%^[2] chance to not consume a bone, meaning they can effectively be sacrificed an average of 2.1 times. This results in an effective 7.37x the normal burying experience per bone.

The 1^st floor^[UK]2^nd floor^[US] is accessed from Lucien's camp during the quest While Guthix Sleeps. It cannot be accessed from the ground floor^[UK]1^st floor^[US] and is not considered part of the Wilderness, so it is a safe area. It is also a free-to-play area, but it can only be reached in free-to-play by going to the area on a members world and then hopping to a free-to-play world.

• The building does not have an official name. The original page name, "Chaos Temple (hut)", came from a page creation in 2008 on the RuneScape wiki, where the building was named that by a wiki editor, based on it containing a chaos altar as well as its roof at the time being reminiscent of a hut.
