The blisterwood flail is a one-handed staff created during the Sins of the Father quest by combining a blisterwood sickle with the Ivandis flail. Should the flail be lost before quest completion, it can be reclaimed from Veliaf Hurtz in the Icyene Graveyard for 40,000 coins. After quest completion, it is sold by Ivan Strom in Meiyerditch. It is a silver weapon and can deal full damage to vampyres of all tiers.

This flail requires an Attack level of 50 to wield, and gives a 25% damage and 5% accuracy bonus against vampyres.[1] Though it can autocast spells, it is outclassed as a high-prayer bonus magic weapon by any crozier, and no spells are capable of dealing damage to vampyres.

The flail is also effective in damaging the vyrewatch and vyrewatch sentinels, due to the flail being incredibly unpredictable and random, which allows the player to circumvent the vyrewatch's ability to predict an opponent's moves through mind reading, and thus dodge regular weapon attacks.[2] The blisterwood further enhances the flail due to the bark continuing to grow unpredictably even after the logs are processed,[3] in addition to the sap being poisonous to vampyres.[4]

The blisterwood flail retains the ability to cast Bloom from the Ivandis flail and any of the blessed sickle varieties used to create the Blisterwood sickle. This multiplicity of use lets a player kill ghasts, vampyre juvinates, and vyrewatch with a single weapon, making it highly useful for Temple Trekking.

During The Blood Moon Rises, a blisterwood flail is used to create the Hallowed flail.

Special attack

A player performs the blisterwood flail's special attack, Retainer.

The blisterwood flail retains the Ivandis flail's special attack, Retainer, which traps a vampyre juvenile or juvinate that has less than 50% hitpoints remaining, preventing it from retaliating for 30 seconds. This consumes 10% of the player's special attack energy.

Even if the attack fails to activate, stating either This spell can only be used on vampyre juveniles or vampyre juvinates. or This spell only works against vampyres with less than half of their health remaining., it will still incur the normal attack delay, so take care not to accidentally use it in those circumstances.

Treasure Trails

The Blisterwood flail is the item Falo requires players to show him when he sings about: Vampyres are agile opponents, damaged best with a weapon of many components. Alternatively, a rod of Ivandis, Ivandis flail, or hallowed flail can be used.

This seems to come from a combination of their fast reaction time along with a limited mind reading ability. To overcome this, we will need to create a weapon that attacks in unpredictable ways. If the vampyres don't know what the next attack is, they won't be able to avoid it. From my research, it seems that the weapon we will need is a flail. Flails are said to be very unpredictable which should make them perfect to use against vampyres."
