  4. ^ Can be used to replenishment run energy a limited number of times per day.
  5. ^ For players with less than 60 smithing, provides a 50% discount on the periodic 10-minute fee.

A coal bag is highly recommended when smelting an ore that requires coal, as it greatly reduces the required number of trips. When smelting gold without a smithing cape, goldsmith gauntlets should be carried and swapped to before experience is received. The rest of the inventory should be filled with ore. Run energy restoration options such as stamina potions should be withdrawn and used as needed.

Smithing catalysts can be used to double the experience received for smelting ores that require coal, though they do not further reduce the amount of coal needed in Blast Furnace. It is not recommended to use them here as gathering meaningful amounts of the catalyst takes considerable effort in the Giants' Foundry, they cannot be purchased for gold, they cannot be used on gold ore, and they each occupy another inventory slot, as they do not stack.

Possible methods

Note: A maximum of 254 coal and 28 primary ore can be deposited in the furnace at once. A maximum of 28 bars of each type can be stored waiting for pickup.

Single-bar method

Smelting a single type of ore into bars is the simplest method of using the Blast Furnace.

Bar patterns

Each bar has an optimal pattern to minimise the amount of running to the bank. Following these patterns you should never have to run back to the bank with ores, and never have to make a trip just to pick up bars. These patterns assume you have a coal bag and ice gloves. It is recommended to collect when returning from coal runs due the delay of smelting (adamantite and runite).

Hybrid method

By taking advantage of the coal bag, it is possible to combine the smelting of gold ore with mithril, adamantite, or runite ore. This method allows for time-efficient trips for players who wish to reduce the cost of goldsmithing at the Blast Furnace without greatly reducing experience per hour, or for players wishing to add additional experience per hour to traditional single-bar, mithril+ money-making methods at the Blast Furnace.

The method is relatively simple to execute. An inventory consists of a coal bag, goldsmith gauntlets or ice gloves (the other pair being equipped), and 26 gold, mithril, adamantite, or runite ore. Each time a full inventory of gold ore (26) is added to the Blast Furnace, the player will also transport and deposit 26 coal with the coal bag. Every few trips, depending on the ore that is being smelted, the player will forgo an inventory of gold ore to deposit an inventory of the other ore of their choosing. This will occur every two, three, or four trips depending on if the ore is mithril, adamantite, or runite, respectively. There is a small inconvenience, though: the coal bag holds 27 coal, not 26, so upon depositing ore at the conveyor belt, there will be 1 leftover coal in the bag. When banking later, this will cause the option available on the bag to be "empty" rather than "fill", which can cause players to think they have filled up their bag, when they emptied it instead. So, players must remember to either click twice on the coal bag in the banking interface (once to empty the 1 coal, another to fill up the bag) or use the "empty containers" option next to deposit inventory or alternatively empty out the remaining 1 coal and deposit it at the conveyor belt each trip.

Hourly rates

All rates assume goldsmith gauntlets are worn when smelting gold, and include the expenditures of 36 doses of stamina potion and 72,000 coins per hour to use the Blast Furnace. Pure gold expects ~250 trips to the conveyor belt per hour, while hybrid patterns expect ~200 trips.

As an example, doing 1,000 trips of adamantite and gold would result in 1,299,130 experience and 6,647,333 coins, while 500 trips of gold followed by 500 trips of just adamantite would result in 1,039,925 experience and 5,132,000 coins.

Bar patterns

The following are the hybrid bar patterns when combining gold and another ore. This method only works on mithril and above, as steel only takes a single trip, eliminating the ability to use the hybrid method. These patterns require a coal bag, and have one less inventory slot due to needing the goldsmith gauntlets in your inventory. It is recommended to prep the Blast Furnace with an additional 26 coal to cut down on any coal transfer wait time when depositing ore.

Single bar with world hopping

To decrease idle time while recharging stamina (if not using stamina potions), world hopping can be useful. This method is really only viable for smelting mithril and adamantite bars, as the coal bag cannot be utilized with runite without having leftover coal in the melting pot, and other bars don't normally need extra trips just for coal. Since up to 254 coal can be put onto the belt/in the melting pot, walking in a non-blast furnace world, while placing 27 ore and coal depending on number of bars to be smelted onto the belt, is an efficient way to be productive while stamina is recharging (without running down coffer gold). These numbers assume the use of the coal bag and ice gloves. Number of coal placed in non blast furnace world also adjusted for an even number of full inventories of bars (minus coal bag slot). Using the regular single bar patterns and switching to this method increases productivity. It can be used to save gold as well; however, the amount saved is negligible for the speed that bars can be smelted. It also may not save any gold if below 60 smithing due to the blast furnace fee needing to be repaid upon switching worlds. Using the no-payment world hopping strategy requires 30 Agility. The process for the World Hopping strategy is as follows:

  1. Hop to a world that is not an official Blast Furnace world.
  2. Load coal and/or ore on the conveyor belt. Load coal up to either the cap or the amount planned to be used if using coal, then load up to 28 ore.
  3. If necessary, repair the drive belt using a hammer, requiring 30 Crafting. The Imcando hammer is preferred to save an inventory slot. Alternatively, begin the process on a world with a non-broken drive belt. Do not change worlds to hop to one with a functioning drive shaft while you have ores on the conveyor belt, as they will be lost.
  4. Pedal for 4 ticks to deposit your ores into the Melting Pot.
  5. Move to beside the bar dispenser with only coal bag in inventory.
  6. Hop to an official Blast Furnace world.
  7. Collect the bars from the bar dispenser.
  8. Bank.
  9. Fill coal bag. Fill inventory with ore. (27 coal, 27 ore).
  10. Deposit coal and ore.
  11. Repeat steps 7 - 10 until no coal remains in smelting pot after retrieving bars.
  12. Switch to non-blast furnace if stamina regeneration is required.
Level Bar Non-blast furnace world Bars made in blast furnace world Total coal needed Total smelting ore needed
50 Mithril 243 Coal, 27 Mithril 8 inventories of 27 bars 432 216
70 Adamantite 243 Coal, 27 Adamantite 4 inventories of 27 bars 324 108
