The anti-dragon shield is an item given by Duke Horacio in Lumbridge Castle during the Dragon Slayer I quest. After the quest, the shield can be purchased from Oziach, or obtained from Duke Horacio for free. It is tradeable, but can only be equipped if the player has started Dragon Slayer I.
The anti-dragon shield mitigates the effects of dragonfire, reducing the maximum hit of most dragon-breath attacks by roughly ~80%. It also prevents Elvarg from severely draining the player's combat stats. The effects of antifire potion stack with the anti-dragon shield; using both provides full protection from standard dragonfire attacks.
The shield's melee and ranged defensive bonuses are similar to those of an iron sq shield, but this shield also provides Magic defence and has no offensive penalties. This gives it some usefulness as an all-purpose shield and best-in-slot for free-to-play mages.

Upgrading
Using a hammer and anvil, players with 90 Smithing (can be boosted) can attach a draconic visage to an anti-dragon shield to create a dragonfire shield. Doing so grants 2,000 Smithing experience. Players without the required level can bring the components to Oziach, who will assist in creating the shield for a payment of 1,250,000 coins.
After Dragon Slayer II is complete, a Skeletal visage can be fused with the anti-dragon shield in a similar fashion, creating a Dragonfire ward.
Both of these shields inherit the anti-dragon shield's properties in addition to having their own unique traits.
