The slashed book is a quest item used in Elemental Workshop I. It is made by using a knife or any slashweapon on a battered book. Additionally, it can be found by searching the bookcase where the battered book was originally found, only after creating a slashed book for the first time.
It is used to make elemental shields or mind shields.
The slashed book (or the battered book) may be one of the items on the item list, given by Thorgel, that is needed to receive a death talisman during or after Mourning's End II; however, it is not needed to finish the quest as long as you already have a death talisman or catalytic talisman.
Duplicates can be drop tricked by searching the bookcase to obtain another only after the player has created a slashed book. Duplicates can be obtained after completing the quest.

Within the pages of this book you will find the secret to working the very elements themselves.
Early in the fifth age, a new ore was discovered. This ore has a unique property of absorbing, transforming or focusing elemental energy. A workshop was erected close by to work this new material. The workshop was set up for artisans and inventors to be able to come and create devices made from the unique ore, found only in the village of the Seers.
After some time of successful industry the true power of this ore became apparent, as greater and more powerful weapons were created. Realising the threat this posed, the magi of the time closed down the workshop and bound it under lock and key, also trying to destroy all knowledge of manufacturing processes. Yet this book remains and you may still find a way to enter the workshop within this leather bound volume.Gallery
