Shadow spiders are one of few monsters that are hidden on the player's minimap. If a player initiates combat, it will drain the player's Prayer points by half of the current amount, rounded up. If a player is in combat with them over a long period, they will continue to drain the player's Prayer at regular intervals. Wearing a spectral spirit shield reduces the Prayer drain by half.
They can never take away a player's last prayer point.
Shadow spiders found in the Waterfall Dungeon are unaggressive to players with a combat level of 105 or higher.

- Fire giants are found nearby of both original shadow spider locations. However, there are no fire giants on or near the shadow spiders on Buccaneers' Haven.
