Raw oomlie may be obtained by killing the oomlie birds found in the depths of the Kharazi Jungle, south of Shilo Village. To get into the Kharazi Jungle, the player must have started Legends' Quest. At 50 Cooking, it can be wrapped in a palm leaf to get a wrapped oomlie, which can then be cooked to get a cooked oomlie wrap.

Wrapping it in a palm leaf is required to cook it; the raw oomlie cannot be cooked on its own. Attempting to do so will always fail (even with a cooking cape), resulting in a burnt oomlie, with the message You cook the Oomlie Meat on the fire..., and after the player burns it, "The meat is far too delicate to cook like this. Perhaps you should wrap it up to protect it from the heat."

Eating a cooked oomlie wrap is a hard task in the Karamja Diary.

Raw oomlie is sometimes given as a tip from the Gnome Restaurant minigame.
