A mahogany tree is a tropical hardwood lumber tree that requires level 50 Woodcutting to cut, granting 125 Woodcutting experience for each set of mahogany logs received.

Notable Locations

  • Tai Bwo Wannai - Requires 100 Trading sticks to enter, but completion of the Elite Karamja Diary permits free access. The nearby Tai Bwo Wannai Parcel Service can transport logs to your bank for 10 trading sticks each.
  • Tlati Rainforest - Able to obtain Ent seed and Loop half of key (moon key) drops.
  • Prifddinas - Able to receive Crystal shard drops.
  • Farming Guild - With the completion of The Forsaken Tower quest, Lovakengj Mine Cart Transportation is free. This allows the player to quickly bank, as the Lovakengj bank is closer than running inside the Farming Guild.

Bird nests

Bird nests have a 1/256(1/230 with the Woodcutting cape) chance to be received instead of a log. They will be placed on the ground and despawn after 2 minutes.

Mechanics

A mahogany tree will fall after 100 ticks (60 seconds) of chopping; the depletion timer regenerates if players stop cutting the tree before it is fully chopped. Once felled, it will take 14 ticks (8.4 seconds) to respawn.

A roll to receive a log is done every 4 game ticks when chopping. The chance to successfully chop is affected by the axe used and Woodcutting level; better axes and a higher woodcutting level increase the likelihood of successfully receiving a log.

Farming

With level 55 Farming, mahogany seeds may be grown into a Mahogany tree, which gives mahogany logs when cut down. Checking on a fully grown and healthy mahogany tree will give 15,720 Farming experience. It takes 3 days, 13 hours and 20 minutes to grow. When cut down, the tree will automatically regrow after a period of time. A player may also pay 25 Yanillian hops to a nearby squirrel to guarantee its growth.

Lore

There are several mentions of mahogany trees by NPCs around Gielinor as well as in books. The following text is from Gielinor's flora - trees. The information found within the book is more often than not just flavour text, and does not reflect their properties or uses within the game itself.

A tropical hardwood species producing a straight-grained, reddish timber. Mahogany is relatively free of imperfections and with excellent workability and durability. Because of this, it is prized by high end furniture makers. Mahogany also resists rot, making is attractive in boat cabin construction. Further, being a tonewood means that it is often used for musical instruments, particularly guitars, producing a better tone compared to other commonly used woods, such as maple. The origin of the name is likely a miscommunication of the old Karamjan word m'oganwo.
