Elite Dark Mages are powerful magic combatants who reside in the Black Knight Catacombs. They utilise protection prayers; as such, using two combat styles is required.

In addition to using protection prayers, they effectively have 99^{[confirmation needed]} Prayer points, and they lose prayer points equal to the attack speed of your weapon each time you attack them. Their prayer can also be drained via methods like Smite, Saradomin Strike, and sapphire bolts (e). Once their prayer has been completely drained, they can no longer use protection prayers.

Their standard attack is Fire Blast, and they also utilise curse spells like Confuse, Weaken, and Curse. They will also sometimes perform an incantation to cast Fire Wave instead of Fire Blast which has a max hit of 20, but they have a chance to mispronounce the incantation and cast Wind Strike instead, which only has a max hit of 2.

Elite Dark Mages count as 6 black knight kills for the purpose of accessing the White Knight Armoury.

When the mages have a protection prayer up, attacking them does not make them lose prayer points equal to the attack speed of your weapon as intended.
