The dragon chainbody is the highest tier of chainbody in the game, requiring a Defence level of 60 to equip. As with most dragon armour, players cannot make this item using the Smithing skill.
Prior to the release of Barrows armour, the chainbody was an extremely rare item, and was a status symbol for accomplished players. Today, the chainbody is not nearly as prestigious as it once was, and its lack of a strength bonus means it is often substituted with armour such as the fighter torso for Slayer tasks and general melee training, where maximising one's damage output takes precedence over defensive bonuses.
A dragon chainbody can be combined with a dragon metal lump and dragon metal shard to forge a dragon platebody, requiring 90 Smithing. The chainbody can also be combined with a dragon chainbody ornament kit to make a gold-trimmed dragon chainbody (g). This enhancement is purely cosmetic, and won't change its stats in any way.
