Demons are a category of creature characterized by a beastly appearance, and often a red or black colouration. Most demons are followers of Zamorak, the god of chaos, and as such, are often considered to be evil. Demons prefer attacking with melee, although a few are also known to use ranged and magical attacks. When a demon dies, they typically leave behind demonic ashes instead of bones as their flesh burns to ash.[1] Demons originate from their home world of Infernus, also known as the Infernal Dimensions.

A wide variety of creatures are encompassed in this category, including many which are not explicitly referred to as demons in-game. Some demons are considered sub-classes of other varieties, and thus will count towards a Slayer task for the primary class. These cases are labelled in parenthesis. There are multiple types of demons: Avernic demons, such as Thammaron, Tsutsaroth demons (a tribe of Avernic demons), such as K'ril Tsutsaroth and Porazdir, and Chthonian demons, such as Duke Sucellus and Duke Mephitis.

Demons are weak to demonbane weapons, which include certain spells, specially made weapons which are tuned to demons[2][3], and weapons constructed out of demon parts or coated in demon blood (as demons are well-suited towards killing each other).[4] Holy water is also known to weaken demons.

Demons tend to stay where they were initially summoned, being unable to leave until they are summoned elsewhere by someone else.[5] They also do not need to be present in physical form to affect the world - it is said that some demons remain in the Infernal Dimensions and from there, use magic to work behind the scenes to cause natural disasters and accidents in Gielinor.[6] These demons can be forcefully summoned to Gielinor to reduce their influence, an example of which being Agrith Naar, who was summoned and trapped in a human body by Saradominists, preventing him from using his magics.[7][8]
