Chocolate cake is a reward from the quest Gertrude's Cat, and optionally from The Dig Site when not choosing the fruit blast as a reward. It will also be served by the butler when asked to prepare food in your player-owned house.

One chocolate cake is needed for the quest A Tail of Two Cats.

Chocolate cakes and slices cannot be fed to pet dogs or puppies; attempting to do so gives the message Feeding the chocolate [cake]/[slice] to your [puppy]/[dog] would give them an upset stomach.

Steps
1. Use an egg, a bucket of milk, and a pot of flour on a cake tin to make an uncooked cake
2. Cook the uncooked cake on a range to make a cake
3. Use a chocolate bar or chocolate dust on the cake to create a chocolate cake - make sure to right-click, as the left-click option on both items is "eat."

Note: If you already have a cake, just use a chocolate bar on it.
