Astral Altar

The Astral Altar is one of several runic altars located throughout Gielinor. It is situated on the south-east side of Lunar Isle.

The altar can be used to craft astral runes, granting 8.7 Runecraft experience per pure essence or 13 experience per daeyalt essence. Crafting astral runes requires 40 Runecraft and completion of Lunar Diplomacy.

Players who have completed Lunar Diplomacy may also pray at the altar to change to the Lunar spellbook from any other spellbook. Praying at the altar while on the Lunar spellbook will switch the player to the standard spellbook, regardless of which spellbook was previously active. The messages Lunar spells activated!, and Lunar spells deactivated! are displayed when switching to and from the Lunar spellbook, respectively. Despite the name of the interaction, praying at the altar does not restore prayer points.

The Astral Altar is a convenient place to train Runecraft or swap to the lunar or standard spellbooks due to its proximity to a bank and quick teleports.

Like the other runic altars, it was created long ago by V and the Moon Clan. According to Moon Clan tradition, the Astral Temple was the first created.^[1] The clan concentrated their will upon a large dolmen constructed out of rune essence until it became "something which it was not".^[2]

The Astral Altar is located in the south-east of Lunar Isle. Caution is advised when traveling to or from the altar as players will encounter a several aggressive suqah in a multicombat area.

Common methods of reaching the altar include:

• Moonclan Teleport spell, tablet, or Lunar Isle Portal to the city entrance, then run south-east to the altar.
• Lunar Isle Teleport scroll to the centre of the city, run east out of the city, then south-east to the altar.
• Boat from Rellekka:
  • Travel from Rellekka to Pirates' Cove by speaking to Lokar Searunner on the Rellekka docks.
  • From Pirate's Cove, board the Lady Zay and travel to Lunar Isle by speaking to Captain Bentley.
  • Leave the docks and run south-east to the altar.

Unlike most other runic altars, the Astral Altar is located directly on Gielinor's surface rather than within an extra-planar temple. It is accessed directly rather than via mysterious ruins, and thus does not require a talisman or tiara to access. It is also not accessible from the Abyss or Guardians of the Rift.

Players who have not completed Dream Mentor or the elite Fremennik Diary must wear a Seal of Passage when banking or interacting with NPCs on Lunar Isle to avoid getting kicked off the island, but can still use the altar without it.
