Abyssal tentacle

The abyssal tentacle is a weapon which requires 75 Attack to wield. It is created by combining a kraken tentacle with an abyssal whip. It is an upgraded variant of the whip, having a +8 increase in Slash and +4 increase in Strength over its predecessor. It also has a 25% chance per hit to poison the opponent, which starts at 4 damage. With regard to 4 tick one-handed weapons, the +90 slash bonus of the abyssal tentacle is second only to the +100 slash bonus of the Blade of Saeldor.

The abyssal tentacle can be created by using a kraken tentacle on an abyssal whip. Once created, the weapon will degrade after 10,000 attacks, including misses. Afterwards the whip is consumed, leaving only the tentacle. When using the items on each other there will be a warning message notifying the player that this process is irreversible and the abyssal tentacle is not tradeable.

If the abyssal tentacle is not protected upon death, it will fully degrade into a kraken tentacle. However, if it is protected on death, it will remain in its regular state as the abyssal tentacle. In addition, the abyssal tentacle does not stack in the bank, regardless of the number of charges the abyssal tentacles have.

Using a Shattered relics variety ornament kit on an abyssal tentacle will change its appearance into that of an abyssal tentacle (or).

The abyssal tentacle has a special attack, Binding Tentacle, which consumes 50% of the player's special attack energy. Regardless of whether the hit is successful, the target will be frozen for 4.8 seconds^[1] (8 ticks), and there will be approximately a 50% chance of applying poison, starting at 4 damage.

Due to the volatile nature of the kraken tentacle, the abyssal tentacle degrades as it is used. Each hit costs 81.94, costing up to 122,908.80 per hour. After 10,000 attacks with the weapon (400 minutes of continuous combat), it will degrade and consume the abyssal whip, leaving the player with only the kraken tentacle. The kraken tentacle will be left equipped in the weapon slot, though it doesn't appear in the player's hands and cannot be used to attack with.

Players can combine the charges of abyssal tentacles, up to a maximum of 20,000 charges. This action will destroy one abyssal tentacle, increasing the cost per hit significantly, as this destroys a kraken tentacle in addition to an abyssal whip. This is only useful in niche scenarios where a player has two low charge abyssal tentacles and will not be able to recharge one immediately upon degradation, such as in a lengthy PvM encounter or raid.

• The abyssal tentacle has similarities to the lava whip in RuneScape 3, released on 16 February 2015. Both are upgrades to the abyssal whip, created from components that drop from Slayer monsters. Both degrade into their upgrade components, requiring an additional abyssal whip to continue using. Both feature a special attack that binds the target. It is also similar to the abyssal vine whip released in 12 July 2011. It is a less powerful, non-degrading upgrade to the abyssal whip that is also created from a component dropped by Slayer monsters.
