The shiny key is obtainable after partial completion of the Temple of Ikov quest, found at the end of the Temple of Ikov dungeon. It is used to take the shortcut from the house in McGrubor's Wood to the lesser demon area of the Temple of Ikov dungeon. It can be placed on the steel key ring.
